afrotl
06-02-2005, 01:27 PM
Yeah it seems like with the TL's a few mods makes it look classy and tight no need to over do it atl all cos it is like buying a mercedes and putting too much mods then it looks tacky...I am definately going to put some nice 18 chromes on mine soon....

I've seen pics, but I am not sure where they are. I'm sure there are MANY who will throw a pic or two of it, and you can usually find it at the local car shows.

I have a black '99 TL. Lowered on eibach pro, tint all around, de-badged '3.2 TL' from trunk, black chrome emblems and oem spoiler.

Silverhill told me the '99 has the extended warranty on the transmission too. I got in an argument with them over the performance (or, lack thereof) of my tranmission.

The '3.2 TL' from the trunk is just on there with double sided tape. The ony badge on the car with holes in it is the 'A' badge.

Cool another 99 TL owner in Calgary, any pics? Yeah I am thinking of doing the same just still deciding on what to do I will for sure take off the 3.2 tl off the trunk....I heard they do have it also have you really had any tranny issues at all? what was happening with the performance? did they fix it? I will be stopping by NW Acura this weekend I will talk to them and see what they have to say...

Nope, Silverhill told me its the same type of tranmission used in BMW's, Toyota's etc... and I told him I have driven many BMW and Toyotas, and if in fact the tranmissions are the same, then the technology and quality of BMW and Toyota must be far superior to that of Acura. The transmission is really jerky and unrefined. Almost a shame, this is my second Acura (I had an EL), my dad has an MDX and after these 3 I seriously doubt we will be buying another Honda/Acura product.

I have pics somewhere... in the for sale thread actually!

My EL was good but it was a 5-speed manual. I had some quality issues with it (rattles, paint, etc) and the MDX has had some minor tranmission, brake, suspension and some interior/exterior quality issues. Before the TL, I had a 5-speed manual 99 Accord EX and it was a great car, I didn't have any mechanical issues with it at all!

06-03-2005, 09:42 AM
Yeah i had an Accord too EXI for a while then I bought a 94 Integra 5 speed no issues with the integra but had tranny issues with the accord.....just sold the accord a while ago and I got the TL.....so far so good hope i do not run into any major issues....just starting to mod it...

There is plenty of rims out there with a 45 offset or higher. make sure if its 18X7.5 its at least +45 or higher. The most you would have to do is cut the little tab in the rear if its rubbing.

How come I cannot find any unless I am too picky, do you have any suggestions on where to get the chromes with those dimensions?...I am looking for chromes though maybe that is why....yeah all the measure are good except for the off set the +42 rub very slightly so I figured rolling the fenders will eliminate that problem.

Depending on the size of the rims you're looking into getting, +42 offset rims on a lowered CL/TL may not necessarily rub. I am running a +42 offset on my Axis rims with 225/45 rubber.

18" will fit, also depending on the springs you're using to lower the car with. I've checked with many other TL and CL owners (on Acurazine) and they recommend H&R oe, sport etc etc depending on how much drop you're looking for.

Sorry, don't have any pictures yet. I will have to get my bf to send me the ones he has on his computer of my car.

You might want to check out acurazine ( on the CL forum page) if you're liking those rims.

There is/was a seller on there that had the exact ones for sale. I actually talked to him and he quoted an asking price of either $700USD or $800USD OBO (if memory serves me correctly).

yeah 18"fit but with a 42 offset there is a little rubbing ...I am not planning on dropping the car yet. I was talking to a guy from CMS cos that is where I was going to get my rims from but he only has a 42 offset and he said when he put it on a 99 tl there was a little rubbing but when they put a 45 offset there was none...

carzcraz
06-03-2005, 05:46 PM
REALLY?!!!

I'm guessing that there are slight differences between a CL and TL then, because I got my rims from CMS (through Bob) as well.

My Axis Mod Se7en's are 18" with a +42 offset on 225/45-R18 rubber.

I was also a little worried about the offset initially, but Bob assured me that this has been done before (on a TL) with no issues. Also, there are more than enough CL/TL owners on acurazine that have gotten away with 18" and +42 offset with drops of anywhere between 1"-2" with no rubbing issues...provided there are no backseat passengers with the larger drop lol.

Therefore I know for sure that this setup will not rub on a lowered and especially unlowered CL.

What kind of rims are you looking into purchasing through CMS?

:dunno:

Well I'd definitely trust what Bob has to say as he appeared extremely knowledgeable about his products.

I just find it weird that 18's with +42 offset and same rubber would fit beautifully on my car and not on yours.

Once again though, there might be slight differences between the CL and TL that we don't know about lol

Yeah sounds very knowledgable, and I did run it by him regarding the fender rolling and he said that wuill for sure make the 42 offset fit. Yeah there must be a slight difference we do not know about.
