I got some pictures of my brother in law's X5 with the 2004-05 4.8is front end and rear.
Some of you are thinking what a waste but most of it was from insurance
(some guy lost control of his Escalade and smoked it into the X)
Things needed to be fixed and seeing as how my family likes
cars with extra goodies, he dished out a few extra bucks on top of what the
insurance was gonna quote him, to get the good stuff.
Im just surprised how much of a difference the new front end looks (especially the 4.8) compared to the previous years.

04-05 4.8is rear bumper with custom wheel arches/flares (damn ugly 4.4 tips  )

Updated nav screen and DVD-based nav? The 2001 factory screen is smaller.

Correct, didnt like the size of his older one, got this one off eBay.
Cluster is off of a 4.6 and he got a used E46 M3 steering wheel w/ airbag (airbag blew in the accident)

he's a total 4.8 wannabe

I figured it was a waste if you were to do it with your own money also.
The whole front assembly (hood, fender, lights, kidney grills, bumper etc...) cost well over 3 g's.

his Tach...why is the redline at like 4000rpm??...or am I reading the cluster wrong??...I mean maybe I am too used to my 8000rpm redline now...

from what I've heard... the redline indicators are set lower until the motor warms up... so with a cold motor, the redline lights/leds will be at the lower points and progressively rise as the motor warms...

Actually there are lights that light up behind it.
4000 RPM to 6400 are lit amber
6500 to 8000 rpm is redline.
I dont know why this is.

EDIT: DXR's answer might be right, Im such noob to the X5, that thing has soo many damn options.

The amber LEDs go out progressively as the engine warms up. One amber and two red LEDs remain on all the time.

This video clip (http://www.members.shaw.ca/christina.lam/Misc/m3_0to290.mpg) shows an M3 tach in action when it's fully warmed up.

I've got lots but most are too big to upload to Shaw. :(

Kinda off topic but here's one of my favorite BMW exhaust notes (http://www.members.shaw.ca/rickandkelly/Misc/apples3.WMV).
