its an lcd projection, if you are gonna drop that much cash, get a DLP tv from samsung, much better picture quality, almost identical to plasma

DLP's look great, they are nothing like plasmas, that being said, lcd projo's are great TVs too. Hitachi, sony and panasonic make awesome LCD projos that very easily compete with any dlp's on the market.

DLPs look amazing, the regular projectors didn't compare and I like the picture better then the plasmas... it gets the best compromise between color and detail.. LCD projectors suffer in dark scenes (Sin City does not look good) and plasmas have very narrow viewing angles and are unproven technology so you have no idea how long it will last and stuff like that. I guess DLP is new, too, but after watching so many TVs before buying one, the DLP was the best performance-per-dollar of all the ones we saw.

Plasma's have the widest viewing angle of all tv's on the market. Not sure where you got that????

Yeah, I think its the LCD's that have narrow viewing angles.

And also, regardless of the technology, make sure you have a room that is large enough to accomodate such a huge TV. Nothing looks worse than watching one of these big-screens up close.

LCDs are the shit!
Better picture quality than plasma
I used to sell TVs for International stereo, and when my dad was in the market I got him into the 42" Grand Wega. Best decision EVER!!!!
Definatly get it, you wont regret it.

P.S. if you have even seen true Hi-def on one....... DAMN

P.P.S. Hi-def golf is out of this world, you can see each piece of grass! and tenis... you can see the sweat beads running off their forheads.
Not to mention the have hi-def porn now too... lets not go there...:D

okay to set the record straight, LCD tvs are not as good as DLP, simple reason, DLP is new technology, LCD is outdated (projection wise)

Projection lcds tvs simple have a small lcd screen in the back and a few mirrors, whatever is played on the small lcd is reflected and it projected onto the bigger screen and you get your picture.

Another problem with lcd is that once a single lcd pixel burns out on the small screen, it will show up on the big screen, and if you don't think lcd pixels burn out...talk to the sony psp owners.

The sony 60 inch lcd projection was the screen we were looking into as well and was retailing at the time, about 3 month ago, for 4500. After doing a comparison between the sony and the samsung DLP we were set and now own a Samsung 61" (or 62" I always forget) DLP tv at the approx the same price as the price of the sony

Its really up to you, but people who say that DLP doesn't compare to plasma are just in denial because they have spend 15k for a tv and dont' want anyone for a third of that to put out such a claim. If you go to futureshop and do a comparison between a DLP tv and a Plasma, it easily outbeats the cheaper plasma screens and in order to be compariable you have to go into the higher model plasmas such as the ones that are over the 10k mark.

not the ones we looked at. the glare was too bad, especially where we have it in our house, there is no way we could have watched it before sundown. from anything other then straight on, maybe 25 degrees to the side.

and you definitely have to get a TV that supports HD. no matter what. HD looks absolutely AMAZING. not much available for HD yet, but the next generation of gaming consoles will definitely make spending the extra money on a good HDTV well worth it.

and LCD TVs just aren't that good. they cost a fortune and really suffer with fast motion and in dark scenes. the LCD projector TVs are probably the best of all the projection TVs, but they still aren't that great.

LCD and DLP each have their ups and downs. Try watching DLP on really fast action scenes. The rainbow effect drives me nuts, for me, it's everytime I blink. If you have never heard of the rainbow effect and own a DLP, don't look it up ;).

Hey 1-bar, when are the A10 GW's coming in???

I have the 4663, its fantastic! Took me the better part of 2 months to finally get it tuned right. In particular when I first got it, the dark scenes looked like shit, I was so disappointed. However after some online research I tuned it up a bit to certain settings that others had posted and voila!

Shaw Digital Cable offers about 5 stations, But this is a TV that you will keep for a long time, and more stations will come out shortly.

Soundsaround still does automatic ad beat on car electronics, I'm not sure if they still do it on the TV. that's where we got our Samsung DLP from, they had a really good price. Best Buy was still cheapest in town though, according to my dad.

I agree, DLP is over rated. I own an LCD projection. Best product for the money right now IMO.

I purchased the new LG 48"

The HD channels are awesome!

Opinions?

It's a great TV. No flickering, awesome picture. Blacks arent' as dark as plasma's or DLP's, but it's damn close, and WAY better than a projector in lit conditions.

I was looking at three different LCD's. The Sony, the Hitachi and the LG. Bang for buck I found the LG to be the best buy. That and it just looks the best out of all three.

I bought the 50" Panasonic DLP at Xmas. I was looking at Sony LCD, a friend bought one and likes it, but I just prefered the picture when I compared them with HD feeds at Best Buy. I also really prefer the look of the cabinet compared to the others. Then I compared the Samsung and Panasonic, again it was a preference thing I went with the Panasonic. Only cons, they all have a fan to cool the bulb and they are louder than you think, but if you sit a normal distances it is not such a big deal, and of course for movies I never hear it. I notice the screen door effect more than rainbowing, but it varies greatly depending on the source, and so many DVD's are different qualities. If you are not planning to get HDTV, or unless you watch a ton of DVD's don't bother with these TV's because it is painful watching regular cable on them. I got ExpressVu because they have the most HD right now. The Master's was unreal, shows like Jay Leno you might as well be sitting in the audience it looks that good. NASCAR show every race in HD, and it makes it very cool to watch. A whole different experience from regular 4:3. All the Prime Time shows from the big 3 networks are shown in HD. But it sucks that Discovery channel doesn't do American Choppers or American Hotrod in HD. Maybe they get it that way in the US but ExpressVu doesn't show it that way. Bottom line......I love DLP, for me way better value than Plasma for very minor difference in picture quality (size for $$ can't be beat). And if you don't plan to get HD content now then wait a while, things will just keep improving and prices will keep dropping.

I just realized the 42" Grand Wega doesn't have HDMI inputs, only DVI. Should I pass on this TV and go for something with HDMI? I'm just worried since I will be keeping this TV for a while and HDMI seems to be the future.
