Probs with LS/VTEC

I was wondering what are some of the problems with a Ls/Vtec? And what is the average cost to build one?

The problem is all the work... The cost? Under $1,500 on average

if your thinking of building LS/Vtec, do it properly, and don't short cut.. Use PR3 pistons, now your problem will be traction lol...

edit: $1500 if you already have a B series Vtec motor installed. If not, it can get really pricy real fast. Price changes as to what parts you wanna use.

The biggest problem is that most people use a b18 block with 200,000+KM then rev it to 8,000RPM and wonder why it threw a rod. I'd say at an abosute minimum, you'd need ARP rod bolts, a Golden Eagle kit, and a head gasket (plus the obvious block and head) but look in to rebuilding it and using something with higher compression, like the PR3 pistons mentioned. Talk to Drew (speed dreams), he has a b18 and tranny sitting around that he's looking to get rid of. You'll be able to pick it up cheap. That way you can build it while your car is still on the road.

Well I have a B18A engine with like 300,xxx KM I picked it up for lke 100$. So that wouldnt be a good thing to build off? I was told I can since all the parts will be new anyways. Is this true?

PS, I have a b16 head and just about everything you'd need for the LS/VTEC conversion already done, rods and well, really all the parts needed short of the block. Check my FS thread if you're thinking of building one.
