From what I see they are pretty cheap and have low km's, if I purchase one am I looking at thousands of dollars in repairs?

dont forget, because its TT ur gonna need double of everything if something goes wrong.... ive seen these cars being work on and it looks messy and hard... and after u fix one thing, something else will go wrong right away... if u have the money and the dedication to it
theyre really sexy cars:drool:

Be careful.

The 300ZX is a big piggy. The TT even more so. It will suck you dry unless you find the right one (far and few between). Miss something and you will regret it for a long time.

Did I mention they were fat?

Sweet but yes I agree with the guys above, expensive to maintain. Unless your making it a weekend warrior and got cash to spend on it, don't count on it for a daily driver.

TT's always have a common problem of overheating.. if they were babied, it's a good car to have... Definitely not a great daily drive since it eats premium like there is no tomorrow if u drive aggressively. Either than that... if u can, try and do work by yourself it will save u an ass load of money.. also be wary of mechanics.. these cars are so rare that not even many nissan mechanics have seen or know how to work on them..

a cheap landed one is about 12 k... after inspections and fixing stuff should be about 14k

Pardon my ignorance, but I assume to motor is pretty much the same as the 300's that were sold here.

the 300zx is an awsome platform for performance, but as kittyboo stated, u must pull out alot of money to mod this machine, its also a tight fit under the hood..

they usually go for 12k, if u want to import one, talk to marvin @ autodream.
and u might want to change the clutch, any belts, etc... u dont know whut the previous owner has done to the motor, especially from japan...when i installed my jdm 4G63 i changed the timing belt as well the the clutch was totally gone, i found out after i installed it.
so to be on the safe side, when importing vehicles from japan, set a side a few $$$ just incase

I was referring to real nissan mechanics not a tuner shop... I'm sure they do pretty good work but I would never take my 300 there to get it fixed... maybe upgrades... If you are in Edmonton, Ericksen Nissan is a really good place... they do about 1-2 z32s a week....

I just imported a TT 300ZX, landed here in calgary about 2 weeks ago. The fact is that they are not cheap cars to maintain, but the look of a dropped out 300ZX is like nothing else on the road. Much like Skylines, once you get them running well and tunned up they can handle being driven pritty hard. Be careful of "Tuner Shops" like auto dream. Andy, the 300ZX guy there, is a good guy and knows alot about these vehicles, but he quoted me $1000 extra versus another 300ZX specialist who is a certified Nissan mechanic and works on 300's all the time. Every time i go into auto dream they try and convince me that i need 100 more Hp, which i dont because my 300 already runs 300 Hp. With these import cars its hard to know who to trust, go down to Certiguard and you'll see the $$$ light up in the Mechanics eyes. As well the parts for JDM ZX's are not all compatible with the American 300ZX, half the parts you can get right from a Nissan Dealership, but the other half need to come right from Japan. And of course you dont know how they were driven over there, mine came running 15 psi, but with no boost guage or boost controller so that was kinda scary.

Take your Nissans and Infinitis to Alvin Automotive

These guys are super-pro's, even more so with Nissans. Just go to their shop and you'll understand. And they don't get the $$ in their eyes either

do a search, they've been recommended many times.

I have had mine for about 4 months now and so far so good (knock on wood). I have heard the horror stories about maintenance, but there is tons of info on the net on how to do most of it yourself...if you have some mechanical aptitude and lots of patience.

if you like your knuckles, you will not buy one

great cars, there's just a few more common problems u get, if u read up on what to look for, ive had mine for almost 2 years now, had the more common issues pop up (leaky rear main seal, PCV issues with higher boost...) all things u can spot before huge damage is done, jus do ur routine maintenance and check ur engine codes every once in a while, it'll run fine. But maintenance is still more than say a civic, keep that in mind.
On a side note since autodream was mentioned, ive been going ever since i got mine, everyhing is done there, never any problems, amazing ppl
