Rear shock mounts are one of the waekest links in the E36/E46 suspension. There is a long history of the rear shock towers and mounts failing.

My suggestion....

JTD rear shock mounts and Z3 reinforcement plates (if you don't have a rear shock tower brace.

Thanks, Clem.
My car is 318. I don't think I need to be concerned. Am I right?

I doubt that th edisplacement of your engine would make a difference. Depends on your driving style. The rear shock mounts are a VERY weak point on E36s and E46s.

how do you know when the rear shock mounts are failing?

I could not take the old one off the old shock to put on the new shock.
