What do you guys use to clean under the hood? is there a spray that cleans everything, including hoses, or do you have to wash it all separately?:dunno:

I've used some engine degreaser, can of spray you can pick up at Crappy Tire.

Cleans the engine and components pretty good. Spray on and rinse off. EZ

But for painted parts, like the underhood or sides of the engine bay, I would use an old washing mitt and car soap. The degreaser stuff might strip the paint.

I would use the CD2 Engine Detial kit from crappy tire, or if you just looking to clean it up, use the Castrol Super Clean Degreaser. We used this many times in the shop for engine shampoos.. The good part about it.. its biodegradable, so safe if you use it on your driveway

Castrol Super Clean is amazing stuff, I use it for lots including the engine bay.

I think 4L is about 17 bucks a NAPA.

Isn't that the stuff you clean bongs with? Maybe I'm thinking of something else http://www.randomsnacks.org/board/images/smilies/bongsmi.gif

I've always wondered if it's bad to pop the hood at a carwash and go all out with the sprayer. :dunno:

I belive that when you wash your engine you should avoid the distributor and your intake.

I went to look at a turbo laser a while ago and the salesman said that when he was washing the engine some water got into the spark plug of one of the cylindars and that's why that cylinder wasn't firing when I started it up. I was like WTF? a little water making a spark plug inoperable? I turned on my heel and walked away from that one

Although he could have been lying about just washing the car it is true about water making the spark plug inoperable.

I washed my engine bay on my corolla once and noticed that it had little to no acceleration. I later found out that there was still water in the spark plug holders. After it dried up it ran like usual.

Well I went in on the friday and he said to come back monday when it was back from the shop, then on monday is when he told me what was wrong - a little water into to spark plug. If a shop can't "dry out" or even replace a spark plug in a few days then run like hell. Stupid salesman.
