Question about windows 2000 pro

My roomate has a laptop with windows 2000 pro on it. It will not startup explorer or any program that relates to explorer. Any attempt to open anything like My Computer crashes it. It runs ok in safe mode.
So i was wondering if i can edit what progs startup like msconfig does for windows XP?

Ive tried reinstalling internet explorer but didn't help. She doesn't have any driver discs for it so id rather not have to reformat it.

You can use msconfig from XP on Win2k. You can dl here http://www.perfectdrivers.com/howto/msconfig.html

Have you check event viewer to see if there was an error code associated with the crash?

every time it crashes it says the error has been logged. Never looked up the log tho. Ill try the msconfig thing and find the log.
