As many of you may have heard, this July 8,9,10, 2005 will mark the inaugural year of the Grand Tuner World Championship (GTWC) at The National Trade Centre in Toronto. What you may not know is what to expect from this new show that has been blitzing the airwaves, magazines, the TV commercials, internet forums and car meets. GTWC is a show with a purpose in mind, to revitalize the scene here in Canada. What does that mean? Well let us explain.

GTWC was spawned from the woes and pains that are heard by everyone in the Canadian aftermarket automotive scene. We want to see cars that will blow our minds away. We want to see the caliber of cars that you would see at SEMA (Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association) every year in Las Vegas. We want to see drift cars sliding sideways like they have done in Japan for years now. The cars that you see on the covers of Modified Magazine, Performance Auto and Sound, HCI and various other publications… we want to see them. The solution, come up with a fresh new approach that answers the cries for tuners all across Canada.

Now how do you draw some the finest cars from across the world? Well, if you are a TOP competitor from California, the idea of spending $4,000 US in trailer costs to come to Toronto is not very appealing. If you are rocking 900 horsepower in your Nissan Skyline GTR in Seattle, the thousands of kilometers you would be putting on your engine to come to Toronto just plain wouldn’t be worth it. What would make it worth it?

How about the largest best of show purse in history? How does $10,000 US in cash and prizes for the Grand Tuner sound? How about a Grand Tuner World Championship belt as opposed to the dozen of trophies sitting in your living room covered by dust? How about the chance to watch Japan’s top drifting teams drifting for the first time in the downtown core of major North American city? Is that worth it?

From the response we’ve gotten, it looks like we have found our new approach. Fortune Veilside NSX’s, RE-AMEMIYA wide body RX7’s, Fortune Veilside Supra’s, 11 second street driven NSX’s, fully built and stroked Skyline GTR’s, tricked out supercharged Scions rocking six 15” subs, fully built JDM spec S15’s, Top Secret 350Z’s all hailing from the top competitors and industry pioneers are coming. Even the editor of Modified Mag, David Pankew, will be entering his own street driven R32 which is currently being built in Japan as we speak.

Alongside these top competitors will be our guest celebrity judges, Neil Tijin and Brian Fox. You may recognize Neil as the prime figure for the Turtle Wax Giveaway a car campaign in the US. Neil is also editor for HCI magazine, based out of California. A pioneer of the sport compact scene, Neil has built some of the finest cars in the industry. Brian Fox is a widely respected industry figure having built demo cars for various companies such as Nitto, Toyo, Nitrous Express and BASF Paints just to name a few. Based out of Pennsylvania, Brian was one of the first to bring recognition to the east coast sport compact scene in the US.

Grand Tuner World Championship is the conglomeration of the finest cars the sport compact scene has to offer in combination with motor sports and drifting. We are excited to work on such an exciting project and look forward to seeing you alongside the other 200,000 people this July 8,9,10.
