alternator belt snapping?

would an alternator belt snapping do any major damage like a timing belt snapping or no?

it depends on the car and layout of the belts.

I know on DSM's it has happened. The Alt or P/S belt snap and get all wound up and sucked into the timing belt causing snapping and/or slipping.

But on a lot of the cars I have worked on, the belt snapping would just make a lot of noise under the hood for a second that that's it.
