Does anybody know if the Calgary Police will allow citizens to borrow their equipment to do a study on driver behavior? or are they only approved for use by police officers?
Any officers care to PM me? :)

I know in the US many police departments will lend them to citizens groups to monitor speed in their communities and report them to police. I figured it might be possible here in Calgary.
No, definitely not for a top speed run :)

I think it is possible. Like 5 years ago The Hamptons homeowners comitee (or whatever its called) borrowed something to measure everybodies speed as they drove down the blvd.

I think that that was a radar device; The lasers are different -newer, probably easier to bust up and waaaaaaaay more expensive.
Do you need a laser or just a speed measuring device?

There's that speed indicator they put on roads frequented by speeders. You know, the kind that tells you how fast you're going.

Laser or radar will work but since I will be the operator, I don't want my lack of radar training to affect the results if there are multiple vehicles in the "target" area. I have operated a laser unit before used by the CPS and it seemed fairly straight forward.

Don't let the sound of the car fool you, its quite deceivingly loud. Seems to be an leak in the exhaust?!
