This class of cars is no known for being extremely reliable. But out of the ones that have come out through the years, which one in your opinion would be the most reliable?

The following cars come to mind: (DSMs(more interested in the Stealth/300gt), WRX, Celica Alltrac :), Nissan GTir, Mazda GTX....etc EDIT: how could I forget the Skyline GT-R, and the EVO

I have never had any major problems with my Stealth. The 6G72TT is a very strong engine, the 6 speed getrag tranny is bulletproof, and the stock clutch is remarkeably strong.

Very, very true. So I've counted 3 alltrac owners on this board that I've never met. I think a mini - meet is in order?

:D

I've been looking at maybe getting a Stealth/300GT...so with regular maintance there should be no problem with the car? Are parts pretty expensive?

parts are no more than any other sports car. i have had no problem and I know other guys that drive these things up to 250k without dumping a boat load of money into them.

If you looking for a stealth ,...... mines for sale right now

all trac is slow, but by far the most reliable, the evo's and dsms have a variation of the 4g63 powerplant, and i would stay away from the stealth and 3000gt, they aren't the most reliable of the lot, and i think mitsubishi is the most expensive for parts, unless you find aftermarket

You think wrong. Mitsubishi OEM parts for DSM's are amongst the cheapest I've seen while Toyota is probably one of the most expensive you'll see.

I'm gonna give a vote for the WRX. Yes I have one, and no I haven't driven the other cars recommended here... but OMG, I push and push this car, and it never flinches.

I can't recommend a WRX highly enough.

Oh wait, this thread is about reliability... errr, apparently the WRX's have a weak tranny. So get the STi

PS. My tranny is still good.:D

Whats going to happen with the 185?? Your still going to keep it right?

We need to have an all trac meet soon....

Well I'm thinking of selling it and getting one w/ under 100,000kms (any takers :)?) I was also thinking about the 3000gt but I hear their reliability is kinda iffy.

Also I've always loved the Mazda GTX. Total sleepers, but actually I would wait till the Familia GT-R is legal. Anyone owned a GTX that can tell me about their reliability?

you guys are a little misinformed abouth the stealth/3000GT platform. The first gen's had a tranny issue, but the second gens are rock solid. I would put my car up against any honda, toyota, or subaru when it comes to reliability.

As far as perfomance.... in the STi area... not slow cars.

Are you looking for something new? If so, relliability will not be an issue. If you want something a little cheaper and older, provided you find one that has been taken car of, any one of those cars will be good. DSM's of course being the fastest. A good stealth is going to cost a lot but a talon/laser won't cost very much in relation to just about every other import of the same year. Buying a modded car is just asking for problems. Buy a stock one and do the stuff yourself so you know it gets done the way it should. Finding a stock awd turbo car is getting harder and harder. They are still around, just takes some looking. Good luck.

I'm looking for something 15 yrs or older ;) haha so it might be hard to get something mint. So yes if I do get a 3000gt it would be a first gen...and If they are not reliable i'll get another st185, but w/ less mileage. One thing I don't like about the car is that the engine bay is packed!! Gotta take it out to change the clutch! haha still love the car. It's fun.
