Thinking of purchasing two 10-inch subwoofers

Ok so I’m thinking of purchasing two 10-inch subwoofers for my Jetta. These subwoofers would be installed into a custom box designed for my rear trunk area. Before I do this, I am first going to insulate my trunk. Here are my questions:

1) What brand of 10-inch subwoofer(s) do beyond.ca members recommend?

2) What brand/power of amp should I use with the above? (the sub you are recommending to me)

3) Lastly, what kind of insulation should/could I use to insulate my trunk to prevent rattling.

1. Audiobahn Alum10 (they can be ordered through Soundsaround)
2. Audiobahn, Pheonix Gold, Soundstream. power: 150-400W. I'm feeding only 75W to each of my RF XLC 10's and it's good for me, but with a higher output sub, they sometimes require more power.
3. Dynamatt (I think? it's the only one I know).

I have 2 10's and it produces amazingly clean bass
--> 2 Alpine 10'inch type S 10's ( the dual voice coil ones )
--> amp ( alpine mrv 100m ) bridged
--> 150 W running to each sub
it provides nice clean sound and can be turned up for some big bass as well, id reccomend my setup for its performance and cost:thumbsup:

as for insulation to stop rattling , i used expanding foam cause its lighter and a hell of alot cheaper , but if you dont care about weight and prices , use dynamat :thumbsup:

i'd go for MTX
i have 2 12" mtx thunder 8000
with a monoblock mtx thunder 6500D series amp
my car pumps out about 125dB i thinkg, i don't really remember.
but that's just SPL, you can turn down the gains on the amp and you'll hear really clear mids and highs, especially if u've upgraded your factory speakers

Look into a couple of 10" Type R's for super bass - Also look into a couple of MTX 8000s (although 1 12" totally shook the shit outta my car). 2 Type R's will run you about $400, 1 12" MTX8000 will run you around $330. Xtant is the same as MTX, don't be bothered into paying higher prices.

4 10inch Rockford HE2 subs
MB Quart 6.5 speakers
PG XS2300 amp
PG T500.2 amp
Panasonic Matrix Deck
2 capacitors

alpine type r and type s subs are ok. decent sq/spl. nice cheap sub. i've ran single 12" type r and type s before. the type r sounds a bit better but not that much difference. this was powered by 500w RMS @ 2ohm crossfire 1000d amp in a custom built ported box.
this setup was awsome but put a little bit too much weight on my car.

the subs that really impressed me was the rockford HE2's and the kicker comp's. both these subs are fairly cheap and sound better than the alpine subs. can pound pretty hard too. i went with one 12" HE2 in a more lightweight sealed box.

mtx subs are ok but they don't sound as good as alpine's. i've probably gone through countless number of stereo setups in the last two years :rolleyes: . my advice is to get something you like so you won't end up replacing it in a few weeks/months.

What it comes down to is your personal preference. Here, you've found recommendations for rockfords, kickers, Alpines, mtx, and more. Type S subs suck for their price, my clarion 12" pounds way more and we compared the setup side by side in A&B, don't even bother. The bottom line is that you need to go around, listen to them all, and compare. You will find that your choices will quickly be narrowed down as you listen to each sub side by side. Eliminate each until you find the right one!

well i have to say this again......the brand dosnt really matter. you need to pick what price, what power RMS you expect, what materials you want it made with, and whatever else you are wanting THAN and than only should you go by brand. everyone makes good stuff you just have to know what to look for.


now what kind of power are you wanting from it, how much each sub estimate.
(and people talking about alpine type S subs, than 2 posts down talking about jl w7's, ok theres about 750$ difference and just about 800-1000 watts diff, totally different design in the hole way it was made.)
and what impressz2000 said...(kicker and rockford...the hx2 do have alot of power handling varys from the models.. i would not buy a base rockford sub, but some of the hx2...i have 2 compVR's in my car and they are so good for the money totally worth it, but thats from experence, too much to say.... you got ideas here from 200-1000$ range

i just got myself two kicker comps VR 10" viberglassed into my trunk with a false MDF bottom to hide the amp and the subs... I'm running 700watts from a kicker amp with a Rockford cap... going to get the car tomorrow so i'll tell you if i just wasted a shit load of money or not :love: :banghead:
