I think you just can't register a newer car here. This was registered out of country, Just like US car's can drive in canada, car registered in other country's car too. Temporarily at least.

Theres your answer

I think theres a maximum time you can have an out of country car in a country, and i think thats the only true way to be able to drive it over here.

I think you can get them to allow you to have the car in the country for a short period of time, but it has to go through the guys who set the import laws. And if the car isn't out of the country after the timeframe you'd probably get fined quite a bit, or they'd make you destroy it... hence why many people don't have new supra's sittin in their garages :P

If the thing had plates then it is legal for good. There are ways around some things. Some ferrari's in the states can't be imported but need "special licenses" since as jesse james puts it, they are race cars with plates!

^^^it had out of country plates, so no it wouldnt be legal for good. If you are a "visitor" to the country, you can bring your car with you. http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/impxus_e.htm#visitors
if you look through transport canadas website there are a number of loop holes to get an out of country vehicle into canada, you just wouldnt be able to register it.

It could be a student vehicle as well.

Yea i was just thinking that. If some Japanese kid had a shit load of money and wanted to go to university here he could technically bring his R34 for how ever long his university term is then right?

No there are loop holes as Chris said, one of the best one being to have it as a company car.

True, it would be sweet if that you could store it in your garage, but there is no way they could trust people. but there are legal way around it (im not compleatly sure of the details) , but they are hard, and in my opinion not worth it. Just wait the few years, FD are available late 2006, that will be sweet. This is the major flaw when it comes to importing a car, the wait!
