u can see the version on setting-->system information
it'll probably help you sell better if it's 1.00 or 1.50, considering there's about 15 games out there already that u can d/l

Considering v1.0 was only released in Japan and the North American version came out at v1.5, I'm gonna guess it's at v1.5

It would be easier just to ask if he bought it in Japan or North America
