What kind of monitor should I get for my computer? I am not so big on the idea of an LCD, would like something that will run 1600x1200, and not cost too much. Plus it needs to be black :D a shallow CRT would be nice but I'm not sure if one exists in this size. 22" would be preferred. Any suggestions?

22" eh??

I've got a 17" KDS Trinitron, dot pitch is 0.21 or 0.22 (viewsonic was 0.24 for the same price I believe)

KDS uses Sony tubes so you are most likely to get 2 faint horizontal lines across your screen, noticable on a full white background but you'd never see it playing games or watching movies or anything, I don't even notice em surfing the net.

My monitor is 4 years old and the picture quality is comparable to today's LCD's. The sharpness is close to the same and the colors I'd say are better on mine than most LCDs.

Also very nice non-glare screen.

other brands I'd recommend would be NEC or Viewsonic.

just remember that your want a LOWER number dot pitch for better clarity.

For 1600X1200, LCD would be out of your question because none exists.

But the real question is, what's your budget?

budget? cheaper is better but I'm not going to chintz out and get a crappy monitor. I've got a NEC and it is still going strong after a long time, so I guess getting another NEC would be a good call.

xtrema:

there are plenty of LCD's that can do 1600x1200.. just nothing smaller than 20". in fact, viewsonic even makes a 22" model that goes up to 3840x2400..

I just got ViewSonic Professional Series PF790 19" Flat CRT and it has those 2 faded horizontal lines. Is that a very normal thing or an issue?

the 2 faded lines are normal in aperature grille tubes. (ie - trinitrons and variants thereof.) they are just tension bands.
