So I have some 17" eagle alloy rims ... they are some kind of a plating on them...not sure about how it is, but it is peeling off. How can I go about fixing these? all 4 have some peeling, so they all need to be done, and I'm sure it's no touch up job, because it's a thick plating of some kind, thicker than paint anyways.
So yeah...any ways I can fix them myself? or do I have to bring them in somewhere to get them done? if so where? I've got no idea so some help would be nice.
:dunno: :dunno:

I was cleaning my wheels yesterday, and noticed the paint that Alberta wheel used on the centre sections of my wheels is starting to bubble and come off... Looks like I am gonna have to get them redone and not at Alberta wheel...

How long ago did you purchase these? You may not even have to get them repaired. If you purchased them recently, should be covered by "Manufacture warranty" A friend of mine had a 92 black celica with black rims and the black was beginning to scratch off, he contacted the company and they sent him a brand new set of wheels.

Looks like clearcoat failure to me. Did you get these painted by alberta wheels? If so contact them and let them know what is happening.

Go take them to a powdercoating shop and get them blasted and powdercoated. You won't have the shiny polished look, but you will have a bulletproof coating on them.

If you are just looking for a cheap quick fix, i would suggest getting some aluminum safe ( guessing your rims are aluminum) paint remover. ( spray can )

Spray them down and let it soak for a few minutes then scrape it off.

I did this to my winter wheels and it turned out great.
If you want pics just pm me and ill send you some.

Man, I've heard so many positive and so many negative comments about this place I don't even know what to think. Some people swear by it, and others think it's an absolute death trap for their cars.

Pretty sketchy:dunno:

years ago when I had my Probe the clearcoat had peeled off of my wheels. When winter rolled around I sanded them down, primed them with aluminum primer and repainted them. I think I used 2 coats of silver spray paint followed by a few coats of clearcoat. Turned out pretty decent, especially when the total cost was a few hours of my time and $30 worth of paint and sandpaper

You'll probably want to do them yourself as Alberta wheel will want 400-600 to repaint them (and they do a great job). Since the wheels aren't even worth that much, you may as well do them yourself. Just feather the clear coat with sandpaper so that you can no longer feel the ridge between the rim and the peeling clear coat, sand the entire wheel with fine sandpaper (320grit +), prime and spray away. They'll look good and won't cost you much more than a couple days work and a few cans of primer, paint and sandpaper.

That seems pretty expensive as you can get them powdercoated for far cheaper and powdercoating will last forever.

FFF: No one, which is why AWR is unbelievably bogged down. Wanna partner up for a new Wheel Repair Company ;)

How much is powder coating? From what I remember, its pretty close and many wheels cannot be powder coated because of the heat etc. Besides, it will still cost you money to finish them prior to being PC
