Anybody know if Calgary can see the deep impact collision fireworks in space? If so, what time would it be? It's 1:52 eastern July 4th

It's going down 11:52 our time. (That's Earth-recieve time; due to relativistic effects, the actual impact will happen sooner, but you won't be able to see it until then. It's like seeing someone kick a kickball across a couple of fields, and then hearing the noise.) You'll definitely want to be out of the city; even with the recent changeover to low-discharge streetlights, they would drown out enough light to block the impact.

According to http://www.syz.com/rasc/hlithdr.htm, the comet and impact will be just above the southwest horizon. You'll need bloody good eyes to see it though.

Given the direction, you'll need to be south and west of the city itself. Head out past Okotoks, that kind of thing. Otherwise, just tune in online.

Looking at the map, we might be too far north to see it from here.

So did anyone actually see it happen by looking up? I guess it was close to the mountains?
