For those inquiring by PM, a modular/multibay laptop means you can swap out the detachable components (floppy, dvd/cd) for other components (battery, hard drives, etc.) to your desires. I even found that there are DVD burners out there made for this as well. Few laptops these days have this capability, and the ones that do are real pricey and high end.

Also had questions about the resolution on this thing. Even at 1400x1050 the screen is sharp and the picture is clear.

I would keep it myself but I've got no use for the portability.

What kind of battery life can you get out it?

Smokem

My friend says that battery life is completely dependent on usage and type of application being run. ie, movie DVD's will use it up in less than 2 hours. But if you turn brightness low and run basic apps, you should realistically get 2-3 hours out of it. Your mileage may vary as they say.

He also says that compaq has a tool you can use to calibrate the batteries so you get their full potential and that the Speedstep technology when running on battery reduces the CPU chip (to ~500mhz) according to the demands of the laptop.

If you decide to get this and want a laptop you can run for hours on end, you can swap out the floppy drive and the DVD/CDRW drive and put batteries in the bays as well. Find them for cheap on ebay and you can have a laptop that can conveniently run for 6-9 hours straight.

Hope this helps.

battery information from compaq

The Armada E500 provides over 3 hours of battery life using the standard9-cell battery. Battery Life using an additional 9-cell battery in the DualBay is over 7 hours. Maximum battery life over 9.5 hours can be achieved using a 9-cell in the Primary Battery Bay and DualBay along with a 6-cell in the MultiBay.
