What should I buy for my first project car?

I finally have quite a bit of money saved up, and want to start driving an actual car, as opposed to the old van I'm driving now.

I'd rather have a muscle-esque car over anything else.

Something that wouldn't be overly challenging to do a swap in as well.

I was thinking of something like an '87 Firebird, but I'm open to suggestions.

I had a 78 Z28 for a number of years. With a 4spd and no A/C they really come alive after being de-smogged. Handle better than expected too.
