GM extends discount to Canada

Canadian Press

OSHAWA, Ont. — General Motors of Canada is extending its popular employee-discounts-for-everybody program to Canada, matching a similar decision by competitors DaimlerChrysler and Ford.

General Motors introduced the employee-discount marketing innovation in the United States, which it boosted GM's June sales to a nearly two-decade high, but was the last of the domestic Big Three to bring the program to Canada.

Ford of Canada and DaimlerChrysler Canada's Chrysler division had said last week they would provide the discounts in Canada, following their U.S. parents.

GM Canada said its program, starting Tuesday, includes virtually all 2005-model Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Saturn, Saab and Hummer vehicles.

It offers prices equal to the GM employee discount, which can be reduced further with other incentives such as zero per cent financing, dealer credits and the GM graduate program.

“The program proved very successful with consumers in the U.S. and we are pleased to offer it to Canadian consumers,” said Marc Comeau, GM of Canada's vice-president of marketing, said in a release.

for the people after the Saab 9-2X Aero (Scooby WRX)

I just went to Saab/Isuzu/Saturn dealership in Montreal and got a quote for the Saab 9-2X Aero.

Model: Saab 9-2X
Package: Aero
Options: None (Included: Manual, Cloth seats)

MSRP was around the $39,000 mark
Employee price was around the $36,000 mark
Additional dealer discount of $4,000

Total price after rebates was $31,000 approximatively, for about $7 to 8k off the MSRP.

Lease rate over 48 months was around 6.8%.

Sorry I don't have all the exact figures but I'm going by memory! To me, this looks like a great deal, however in the US the Aero was going for USD $20K, so the deal is NOT as good in Canada it seems!

That is 5% off for employees. It really doesn't look like a crazy discount to me. Other rebates are more substantial.

This is ON TOP off all current rebates. So you get extra 5% without even asking and more if you pressure them a bit.

And the real bonus is the 9-2X Aero which is rebadge of a WRX wagon. Do you really forsee going into a Subaru dealership and get that car for $31K?

Yeah, I'm just saying I'd expect employees to get more than 5% on regular basis.

When I bought my car it was off of a buddies Uncle and he mentioned to me how I was able to get a better price than he could for himself. Their discounts aren't that hot.

As the article said, started today. Being Stampede week and all, very few people will have new vehicle on their minds. I'm sure dealers will do anything to get a sale this week.

BTW I also notice Solstice is on the discount list as well. Wonder how that work for a car hasn't been released and won't be til September.

I'm surprised the Corvette is on that list as well. I thought a car like that sells itself no problem?
