Hate to get my hopes up, but according to TSN, the "The wait should be over before the end of the day.".

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=130240&hubName=nhl

Sources say there's nothing left on the table that is likely significant enough to derail the entire process, which is now in its final hours, but more time is required to finish off these items to the satisfaction of the league and the union.

Couldn't continue on this thread? This is hardly new thread worthy.

I will believe when it's done. Been a few times when the "deal is done" comment has been made.

Ya I just hope they sign off on it, I know a lot of players are pissed off. Not there yet, but its a huge step in the right direction.

The chances of the players rejecting the deal are so small, IMO. I mean... what is there to gain from losing ANOTHER year? Aboslutely nothing.

About time. :) I hope half the "new rules" do not happen, though.

Is it as hard to get tickets here as in Toronto?

Majestic is right...why would they want to lose another year...they just can't afford to do it, and the same goes for everybody else (ie: people who work at the arenas, etc) . They got them backed into a corner.

He's been playing back home in Finland...last I heard he's doing quite well over there. Now Rhett Warrener, there's a guy all rusted up. He's been spotted at Chinook and Stampede, all fat and plump as ever.

- a 24 per-cent salary rollback for any NHL player who has time remaining on an existing contract, keeping in mind that the players will receive none of the monies they were slated to earn in the lost season of 2004-05.

Ouch!

- liberalized free agency: age eligibility for unrestricted free agency at age 31 in 2005, 29 in 2006, 28 in 2007. In 2008, it's 27 or seven years of NHL tenure.

Sucks to be a hot rookie.

- No player can earn more than 20 per cent of the team cap, which for 2005-06 means no player can earn more than $7.4 million.

A few players are not gonna like that.

- Participation in the February 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy.

That's cool.

Saves the owners from having to put up with over-rated expensive rookies that end up doing nothing.

free agency is a good thing for the players... not sure what you guys are talking about :dunno:

its bad for the owners.... if you have a shitty team all your young players can now walk and go where ever they want at 25

I think it will be the same one as the 2004/2005 season....which means Tampa Bay will not be playing in Calgary. :banghead: :whipped:

on the brighter side of things....hopefully we can win crosby in the draft. I know its wishful thinking, but afterall we are routing for the flames here :D

Yea, Crosby will probably be a Ranger. But, it doesn't hurt to dream though, right?...:D

And I'm positive that SJ will be playing in Calgary.

heinz256
07-14-2005, 06:24 PM
haha ur on.........i hate how the lottery system works . Every team has a chance to get crosby which means he could even end up in toronto or detroit. Teams like new york and pittsburgh get an extra ball but barely have an advantage over the teams with 1 ball. They shouldn't base the teams on what they have done the last couple years because next season, they are all completely different teams with the new deal and all...

If SuPhistiKatEd is right, then Calgary should be playing the Sharks on the home opener.

I only read the headline because I am too cheap to buy a paper and too lazy to read the article through the newspaper machine window, but the Calgary Sun read, "NHL Deal-But Will The Fans Be Back?" Uh. . .who can be classified as a fan if they do not watch/go to games when they have not been able to see them for over a year? I can picture three grumpy old men sitting around saying, "thehellwithit!" and complaining how in their day strikes were for miners. . .so instead of watching the game they take turns hiding each other's fixadent, but other than that. . .
