Subaru is cool, but the spoiler is kinda gay... too busy. If there was only one piece in the middel like the Lancer would be cool.

Wonder what the purpose of that new spoiler is. To stabilize high speed lateral movement I suspect.

I saw Leg 1 on Eurosport. Such aaaaawesome footage. It just keeps getting better and better! All the little and big mistakes, crazy stuff! Ice mixed with tarmac.. yum.

I heard the 2 subaru's retired on Day1 of the 03 ralley (monte)? Can anyone confirm??????

Mikko

Yes I can. Petter Solberg first messed up his intercooler a bit on one stage, then on SS5 he crashed the front into something (I missed what it was) again, and he was forced to retire (he looked pissed).

Mäkinen hit something and went off the road to the right, in a downhill part covered with snow. I guess he couldn't make it back. Same stage, too, SS5.

Hyundai Accent :) And these cars don't share much except the look and some other things with the road cars. And that is mostly to sell more of their road cars anyway.

For example, Peugeot sells no AWD version of the 206. It's a cheap econobox, FWD.

And for the record, its an Accent, not an elantra. Call it the rollerskate from hell :D

hmm, I suppose.

Didier Auriol (champ in 1994 I think) was on 7th place in his first rally in the Octavia (Skoda) - not bad at all. Then during the summer the Octavia is going to be replaced with the Fabia WRC car instead, which is smaller and more agile.

I think this might just be the most exciting season in ages.

Is this the intercooler mounted up higher or the rad?

P.S. I am not good with paint!

The WRC car is a front mount, but what you are seeing is the top of the radiator.

Sweet thanks. I couldn't tell and i thought that they might have it up there to prevvent damage on rocky roads.

They don't generally take too much front end damage from rocks and that unless they hit it directly. The car is fitted with a heavy duty skidplate to keep anything they might land on on the road from damaging anything, although a really big rock will cut through it like a hot knife through butter (a rock that big would probably take off a wheel or something else putting you out of the rally anyways). With a minute between cars (2 minutes on some rallies or stages, depending on conditions) there is generally very little passing, so debris from other vehicles is rarely a concern.

 you should have seen this - Marcus Grönholm having a slight crash and then going slow throughout the stage, and crowds were throwing snowballs at him when he passed them by.

The spectators on the Monte, throw snowballs at everyone they can, they also haul loads of snow onto dry stretches of road for entertainment, (usually right at the apex). Colin Macrae has crashed several times in France from spectator-induced 'fun'

In Canada I have seen spectators roll large rocks onto the road to provide viewing 'fun'. While comparing Frank Sprongls in-car with Barry Latrielle we found a 300 pound rock that moved into the road during the one minute gap.

Stupid. It only gets expensive and will kill someone eventually.

ahaha that is so funni...i can just picture that in my mind, going through this one part with crowd on both sides....then getting plowwed by snowballs! soo funni, but at the same time, making the roads more dangerous or putting that 300 pound rock on the road is jest stupid! :thumbsdow
