but a native screen resolution of 852 by 480 is not high def.ok it might have the connectivity to hook up high def equipment but the screen cant display a truelly high def resolution, right?

That's right, it will downconvert everything you give it into a 480p format, unless there is some trick here I am missing.

It's an EDTV. 720p and 1080i will look like DVD quality on there.

Not worth $2100 then.
Cheapest Plasma I have seen with "some" HD compatibility though.

You're not going to find a plasma HDTV in the $2000 range. All those are EDTV's, good for DVD's and SD TV stuff, that's about it.
