Just a quick question regarding sparkplugs. When should they be changed and what is the average interval. I am running platinum plugs right now. I spoke with the dealer and they mentioned it should be done every 96 000 kms but on the website it states 192 000 km. Anyway advice? Should I go with the dealership or listen to the actual Lexus website?

Dealership wants your money, website wants you to think you dont have to bring your car in for maintenence very much.

I'd go on the safe side, plugs are cheap.

yeah that's what i was thinking. my plugs are $16 a piece x 6 + labour. Dealership wants $240 to do all six. Not too bad I guess.:dunno:

$240 bux?   I'm running a turbo and change mine every 5K and they are like 2.50 each, takes about 5 minutes to change = 10 bux total. Now I don't know how tough it is to get to on a Lexus but I can't imagine it being that hard. Look at an online tutorial maybe and save yourself some cash!

$144 = 1.5 labour hours. Are your plugs hard to access? I would buy the plugs and DIY. Probably can get them cheaper than $16 each.

Another option would be to clean your existing plugs if they're not too bad.

Here's the cost of the parts:

For installation, what you do is pull out the spark plug wires, then use a deep socket to unscrew the old sparkplug out...that's it.

Thanks Jeff. I knew I could count on you for info.

Yeah I think I'll give it try this weekend. Buy the parts from wherever and see how it goes. My biggest concern is getting to the last 3. I hear the first 3 are readily accessible but the last 3 are a bitch.
