I'm interested in attending a local LAN fest. I'm familiar with www.lanageddon.com but they are WAY outdated in respects to have a tournament anytime soon. Any geeks out there wanna fill me in?!

I love info. The more you have. The more I respect you. :bigpimp:

Ya.

Jaret and I are often at Switch Box. Well... were starting to make more and more of an emergence, but I want to bring my own shit and play for like two days straight. I find I PWN best with my own gear.

Guess I'll have to start up a monthly LAN activity of sorts at a community recreation center or something.

What day would it be? And which games?

Fluidic
07-22-2005, 01:38 PM
Not sure on the day. I need to figure out the amount of people coming, then I'll find an appropriate location that can hold however many people are coming.

As for games. Well. You'd have to own you're own copy, but I'm thinking tournaments in CS: Source, BF1, BF2, etc.

Suggestions. Ideas. Comments.

Sounds like we are going to require

1) 32-Port Switch, I am thinking that nobody is going to have one of these, so we might have to daisy chain 4-5 port routers.
2) High-Po Server, well, we are going to require some sort of box
3) Place to game, whos got a hizhouse?

Toms-SC
07-22-2005, 01:48 PM
Classic BF 1942 for sure
CS for sure
Strat games?

This is going to be hard to pull off, by far the best thing to do it to meet at Switch Box or attend an event that already has equipment in place.

With that being said...

We need a place, the rest can fall in after

I am pretty sure I have access to a 3com 24 (at least) port switch. No access to a location though.

Fluidic
07-22-2005, 11:15 PM
Don't worry about the location, I'll have it taken care of. :)

You know your stuff.

This shouldn't be that hard to setup, surely alot of people already have routers, so just daisy them up, and I'm sure somebodys got a spare computer of good spec that can be setup as a server, I used to do this all the time at college playing games with other guys in the room, made for some good times, I might be in on this depending on the game.

Damn it if I knew about this a couple months ago, I coulda got like 2 or 3 32-port routers from my old job for free, DAMN IT.

I'll bring equipment to make some cables aswell so we can be spread out

As per server requirements, we need a box that is
1) Virus, Spyware free as not to hinder performance
2) 2.0 GHZ Above
3) 512 RAM at a MINIMUM, 1 GIG would be perfect
:D
4) 20 GIG Drive to support the games

I don't know for sure but if they play Counter Strike Source, I think (not sure on this) you can use the original Counter Strike to play, and the old one doesn't need a very fast computer too run on, I don't have a great PC, its of average spec, but the graphics card is pretty crap.

Ben and I are having a mini-mini-LAN deal at my place right now... it's exciting and fun. Once I find the location for the LAN party, I'll post up how much the entry fee will be, the date it'll be held on, and how many people we require and/or can accommodate. Whether it be a community recreation center, someone’s renovated (stylish) basement or an apartment, I guarantee there’ll be LOTS of room, LOTS of electrical outlets and a kick ass server to assist us in our gaming adventure!!

This IS going to happen. So be prepared for some PM's. The people who have shown curiosity in this thread are on my PM buddies list. Watch for the messages!

Just got another idea, wireless connections. :)

Fluidic
07-24-2005, 11:51 PM
Fuck wireless. It's great, but if we get more then 11 computers, we'll have problems.

RJ-45! :D

Ben
07-24-2005, 11:53 PM
Yeah, after threshold testing we found wireless to just not perform at a satisfactory latancy level compared to the wired pc's.

MAX SPOTS = 16 people

$$ per person = $10 bucks

CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!

It'll be 24 hrs!! A TRUE 24 hrs!

How does August 12 sound? Interested? Speak up. It's 10 bucks. Bring you're own gear. It's going to be like two minutes west outside of Westhills, and it's going to be a beautiful home. Just us, computers, beer, pizza -- all that bad shit!!

$10 bucks!

LOL... ya daisy chain some routers... have 2 routers giving out DHCP. smart ;).

Another BIG thing you have to worry about is power. For LANageddon, we have at least 5K in power infastructure to support that many users without any problems.

Tom. You wanna be the equipment guy? PM me.

As for electricity, I think we will be ok. Quite a few of us have laptops, but for the most part, this is a seriously large house, we'll be spread out. :)

haha my battery will only last 20 min when playing a game.. so im gonna need some power..

3.4ghz on a laptop tends to draw hella power

Tiny amounts of power compared to a desktop.

So what games are gonna get played?, I vote for Counter Strike (thats a given) and Team Fortress Classic.

Ben. Sounds like it would fit the job quite nicely. May we have access to it August 12?

I'm thinking the majority of people at this event will be CSers and BFers. Nothing like throwing in a mix of variety however.

There WILL be prizes. I'll play sponsor, so they'll be worth it.

24HRS OF LAN GAMES BABY!!!

Lets make it a touch earlier!!

Sunday, August 7

or perhaps

Wednesday, August 10

We should probably make it just a 12 hr LAN... from 12am Sunday to 12pm Monday kinda thing. Does that work?
