Im using the CCNA: INTRO/ICND exam prep guides, but I have several budies from class that took the INTRO exam without studying, but that was right after the end of school and we are in Network Engineering Technology which focuses on the CCNA for first year and CCNP for second year.

I have found the books useful, but they were about $90.00 to but the both of them together.

I would recommend having a look at what is involved with cabling Cisco devices, and learn the Cisco Three-Layered Hierarchical Model front to back. Found is also important to know the what is involved with selecting Cisco products for the proper application for the proper WAN, (Frame Relay, ISDN, T-1/E1)

IIRC, they look at the following:

Point-to-Point Protocol
Integrated Services Digital Network
WAN Design and Types
LAN Design
Frame Relay
Network Management
Point-to-Point Protocol

This is a good book IMO.

Self study was excellent, and its an easy read. I would also suggest seeing if you can get some lab time. Know how to set up:

Basic Config (Name, FA, SA, IP)
DHCP
Security (Switch port, Access List)
Inter-VLAN Routing
VLAN Management
IGRP
EIGRP
Static Routes
Default Routes
RIP v1.0 v2.0

www.ciscokits.com for the best pricing I've seen
