My cavalier is no longer for sale. If you just want a beater car that is cheap to begin with also reliable and cheap to fix get a 95-00 j-body or a neon. My cav gets 450km to the tank the way I drive it, which is pretty hard. The insurance is pretty cheap too. I have had no problems with my cavalier.

Save the imports for summer

there is a del sol for sale right now thats just under $10,000. I would also suggest a crx or a EG civic hatchback.

It's 50L for my cavalier. Most imports are equal/better on gas than my car, it's just j's are soo cheap!

s13 nissan 240sx.. just try to go for 91 (or is it 91?) and up, as, I believe, that's the year they switched from KA24E to KA24DE (twin cams). RWD, fun to drive, tuneable, looks pretty nice, ok power (ka24 is quite a potent engine, despite what those screaming sr20det say).

if you can't live with rwd in the winter, go for a 1990-1992 GTI 16V (the 2.0 16V, rather than the 1.8 16V) -- be warned though, repairs are likely going to cost more than with the japanese cars.

KA24DE's are pretty reliable. I've got one in my car and have never had any problems with it.

A 1985 to 87 toyota corolla GT-S (in canada). thats what it is. Its special because of the limited slip diff.

the specialness of the car cannot be described in words. one must drive or ride in one to understand.
