ok I'm fairly new to burning dvd's as I just picked a burner up and usually I can figure these things out but this time I am stumped.

I've had no problem burning dvd from an image file (with nero/alcohol) or burning from a folder containing a dvd-rip (with all the sub and vob files and such)(using clonedvd) but I have a few movies in avi format that I wish to get on a dvd as well. Now I used Imtoo Mpeg encoder and told it to convert to dvd and all it did was make a single vob file. Can I make this vob file work? or do I need another program to do the conversion?

I've heard good things about TMPGenc, will that program do what I want? What about making menus and chapters and such? Any help or direction to a forum that deals directly with this kind of stuff would be great

I use NeroVision Express 2, works like a charm. Just make sure you have the DVD plugin for Nero. It probably came with your burner, anyway.
