So here's the deal I am having problems deciding wether or not I want to either turbo my D series engine one my civic or if I want to do a B16 swap and play with that abit(turbo it who knows). Im having big troubles deciding what I want to do. In the long run, which do u think would be better for my car. I mean I want to run like 5-9 lbs nothing crazy but just the engine alittle more pep! Anyways any comments would be awesome and all imput appriecited.

If swapping think about B18B + boost. It is fun

Im just curious cause I found a nearly complete turbo set-up for my D series for like 700 Bux minus a front mount

 LS motors can be had cheap and are very reliable. I know of at least 2 in town for under $500. It's a nice motor to swap in and just leave alone until you collect all of the turbo parts.

If I had to do my honda all over again...I would for sure go this route...that or the B20 with boost...

Boost, people will see a Civic expecting some slow pos then after they wonder why you walked all over them. Go stealth and run an SMIC as well.

Drew has one. It'a a B18A, but basically the exact same motor....I'm sure that price is negotiable:

I also have some rods that would do nicely if you're building it up. Check out the link in my sig for parts. I also have a spare LS tranny.

if i were to do a honda, this is the setup i would go with. b16 is quick, but VERY over-hyped, after going for a ride in one (chirped 4th gear, still pretty impressive), its quick but the lack of torque sucks ass. b18 with boost might cost a bit more, but if you look at the dyno charts of a few turbo b18's on here, they have more then enough torque for the weight of the car, and all have put down impressive numbers

I know it's a typical response, but you need to look at what your power goals are.

If you're looking for around 180 whp, turboing the D15 and a good tune should be a good route. I find it easier to add power to a boosted motor, as it's simply a matter of upping the boost (assuming you can do so responsibly), keeping everything flowing and making sure you're tune is right for the car.

A boosted D15 is probably a pretty capable motor, though not a blazing performance machine. If you're just looking to run a turbo setup and have a fun little car, than that's the route I'd take.

But, keeping in mind that you probably will want faster at some point later on, doing a B16 or B18 swap now and a turbo later might be a good idea too.

k, i dont mean to sound like a moron, but would some one please tell me, the difference between the D15 and the B18, it obviously sounds like a difference. i have a 2000 civic si sohc, what does this engine classify as?

i was also wondering if i should turbo my sohc, or upgrade to a dohc and pretty much make my car a SiR.

what is the best route for me???

B18 motors came in Acura Integras and are 1.8L. the number tells you the engine size. D series came in civics and the such.

well what do you wanna do with the car? Here are your choices as i see them. If you dont wanna rebuild an engine:

1) boost your D-series stock and push around 180hp with some decent torque. Spend less, but gain less in hp wise. It'll still be a pretty fun car.

2) swap in B-series if you want more than 200hp. Yes i know some d-series will hold 200hp with stock internals but i wouldn't run a D15 to 200hp if i didn't have a backup engine ready to be put in.

I'm guessing this is your daily driver? so reliablility is a huge factor. You have to factor in down time for all the of neccesary installations.

I have a boosted d15. It's fun, nothing crazy. i'd say around 175hp? idk haven't dyno'd it. If i could do it over, i'd get a nice d16z6 and build the bottom with some cheap eagle rods and JE pistons and boost around 12-15 psi. But that's coming later. I love the torque curve of the D's.

SO basically this car is my daily driver, and I was hoping for a goal of 200-225 HP. I would love to B18B engine just to build up and have so when I have everything its a direct swap, No F'n around. I am basicly aiming for a street sleeper and a high way cruiser, I have a bike for fast 1/4 mile times I just want a comfortable boosted EK :)

Then do the swap and boost it later.

I'd say:

Find B18A1 (92-93 integra) or B18B1 (94-01 integra) 140hp 126tq. Worried about KM's? You can do a compression check!

Junkyard turbo and parts around $1500
Brand new turbo and parts $3000-5000
Your ECU chipped and basemapped Uberdata $75

The key is patience. If you want it done the right way wait for the parts and don't shortcut. Also don't buy cheap parts, you will get what you pay for.

hope that helps

no 14b, its too small but the good thing about a small turbo is of course quick spool and easy to work with. Go T3 .42/.48 atleast.

I run t3/t04e 50 trim .48/.63
I find it to be really nice and streetable. Starts to spool at 2800, fully spooled by 4000.
