Not very much. Other than remapping the corners and a bit of white balance correction on the second photo, that's how they pretty much came out from the camera.

Is your camera lens threaded for filters and adapters? If not, you might need to get a separate adapter so you can screw filters and such in front of the lens. You'll almost definitely find something on eBay for cheap.

I'm no professional or anything, nor do I have a camera that lets me explore some of the possibilities that you guys have, but I always look on this thread and see the coolest looking pictures. And I wanted to try and get some that even came close to comparing to some of the pictures I always see you guys put up. Here are some attempts:

Some pictures in Banff:

Just a few of my favorites from the hundreds that I took haha. Like I said before, I'm just trying to get those cool looking pictures that always appear in this thread haha. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

welcome to this thread. most people including myself aren't pros. we just like shooting and experimenting with cameras. the gear doesn't really matter either. i've seen amazing stuff taken using polaroid cameras or $30 holgas. to improve, study the works of your favourite photogs, experiment and most importantly, continue shooting. keep it up!!

btw, i couldn't load any of the images off imageshack. have you tried flickr? it's got way more functionality and it's free.

turboMiata nailed it. I like to try a lot of stuff out. I spend a lot of time on photography forums and visiting other peoples' photoblogs just to get ideas and try them out on my own. If you see something you like, ask how it was done. You can't improve if you don't try. (Everyone's gotta start somewhere.) My camera goes just about everywhere with me and I'll shoot anything.

I wouldn't worry if only a few of your photos turn out. I get the same thing. I get many throw-aways before I'm able to find an decent photo, especially when I'm doing macros. (I think on average, for every 100 or so macro shots I do, maybe only 3 of them are remotely acceptable!)

I don't think I'd charge anything. I really don't have very much experience with automotive shoots, so how well they'd turn out is anyone's guess! If you want guaranteed results, you're probably better off talking to some of the more experienced photogs.

Congratulations indeed. Question though: was your baby overdue? I always thought newborns were bald? I sure as hell was. Or is it just that girls grow out their hair sooner while still in the womb?

for star shots, the camera wont be able to autofocus on them, so in order for them to come out clear, focus manually on a light source far beyond your cameras focus range listed on the lens display, and then shoot the sky. That or if you have insane eye site, aim at the stars and manually focus that way, but you'll have better success aiming first at a far away lightsource than the sky. (for example, if you're on a lake shore, look accross the lake for a light of some sort and focus on that, it will be far enough away to be in the lens' "Infinity" point and anything in that will be in focus.
