Gelinas a Panther

PanthersAccording to Sportsnet.ca, the Panthers have once again shopped the market by signing veteran LW Martin Gelinas, 35, for two years. The Panthers appear to be making a push for the playoffs by adding experienced veterans.

Omg that sucks, Gelinas was a really good player for the flames in there last run espically in the playoffs. Hopefully Calgary will be able to pick up a few players to fill his position. The Panthers look like there buying everything insight lol.

Amonte is a good pickup for the Flames
$1.8 million for a guy that can score 20+ goals a season which is what we needed and it was only for $1.8 million a season.:D

Anyone know how much $$$ we have left??? I doubt we're gonna get niedermyer now since we got amonte, I don't see how we'll have enough $$$ to re-sign iginla and kipper as well (i'm assuming that haven't be re-signed yet since I haven't heard anything aobut it)

Hours after losing Martin Gelinas, the Calgary Flames added some scoring and toughness, signing unrestricted free agents Tony Amonte and Darren McCarty.

Amonte signed a two-year contract at $1.8 million per season. McCarty also signed a two-year deal for $1.6 million ($800,000 per season).

we got Darren McCarty as well... holy shit:nut:

I'd rather have gelina over amonte. We're paying amonte double of what we had to pay gelina. No way amonte's double the player over gelina.
Gelina was clutch for calgary last year in the playoffs.

Mccarty is a good signing, he'll more than make up for nieminen (who I liked), Amonte is a good skilled player, but I'm not really a fan of him.

I can't wait until the season is under way.

Great day for the Flames, upset over loosing Gelinas but I like the McCarty pick up. Such a hard worker and rugged player. His style is what Sutter is looking for. Some one to dig out the pucks, do the little things most players hate doing.

Toni Lydman $1.9 million
Tony Amonte UFA (Philadelphia) $1.85 million
Robyn Regehr $1.672 million
Marcus Nilson $1.368 million
Stephane Yelle $1.368 million
Chris Simon $1.216 million
Roman Turek Committed to Europe $1.14 million
Jason Wiemer $950,000
Darren McCarty $800,000
Shean Donovan $627,000
Byron Ritchie $450,000
Steve Montador $450,000

11 Players $14,241,000

Here is the Flames payroll so far, taken from tsn.ca. If the Flames spent aprox. $34 million, they have $19 759 000 left in the budget to sign aprox. 8-10 players.

Trust Sutter, since he took over as the gm every move he's made has been a success for the team. When Sutter brought kipper to the flames, i was like "this is the worst move ever but look how well it turned out, same with Simon, nilson."

I say ideally, we need to sign another power forward to take conroys void (amonte probably took gelinas), and Neidermier would make it a good situation for the flames. Of course in addition to Kipper, Iggy, and Langkow obviously.

Any ideas on how much Kiprosoff, Iginla, Langkow, and Niedermyer will cost us? Respectively?

I think its pretty important that we don't go nuts and give Kipper a crazy 4 odd million dollar salary just yet, Sign him for a 1 year, and see how he works out for us next year, In spite of how well he led us in the playoffs I am still a little skeptical of his long term ability. Also, we need to dump lydman, 1.8 is wayyy to much.

langkow is conroys replacement

kipprusoff - prolly 2.25-2.5 mill
iggy - prolly 5-7 mill
langkow - prolly 1.95-2.25 mill

who knows how much niedermyer wants, he could take a pay cut but we don't know what he is thinking and who he is talking to.

either way, if flames sign another play I am hoping its a PP QB!

I guess Dallas won the bidding against Boston, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh.

mac_82
08-03-2005, 06:05 AM
This might give you an idea of what Kipper would sign for:

Marty Turco $3,161,795
Tomas Vokoun $2.28 million
Evgeni Nabokov $3.363 million
Patrick Lalime $2.432 million
Jean-Sebastien Giguere $3.99 million

Giguere is a little high, but Kipper fits right into the 2-3 million range.

Amonte is a good pick. He played for Sutter back in Chicago, so Sutter knows what he is getting himself into.

I think we'll see a good year from him. Gelinas was a great player for the Flames, but you cant keep the same team around forever.

Majestic12
08-03-2005, 07:25 AM
If it was down to Calgary vs Vancouver for Nieds... no way could Vancouver afford him... don't think they really need to either, with Jovo and Naslund on the hook already, plus Big Baby Bert, etc, they can't really afford that many more high-profile guys.

fordo_11
08-03-2005, 08:41 AM
Amonte is an awsome pickup, him and Sutter have a history and it sounds like he is going to return to Left wing (were he had his most success) to play on Iginla's line. And he is returning to Sutter's system (were he had his most success) . Darren McCarty is also a solid pickup (I told you we were after him in the Nieds thread) he is an upgrade from Ville. Langkow replaces Conroy and actually may prove to be more dangerous??? (about the same point as Conroy, but on a less productive team). Looks good for the Flames, watch for Nieds decision to be made today or tomorrow (Lets go Flames). Then comes the RFA the Flames have. Calgary is going to be solid and a contender for division champs now that we have a level playing field with Vancouver and Colorado (Deadmonton is going to be left crying like babies  for over paying for Pronger).

No I believe he was making something in the 4 or 5 million range but I am not entirely sure, he is worth it but for some reason I remember Sutter saying he expected Iginla to sign for 5 or 6 million just after the lockout was done. Caught me a bit by surprise but I can't think of a player more deserving of the money.

Brian Leetch has signed with the Bruins http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=132328 .

our d core is not one of the most solid though..

What D-Core is better???? Come on we have Dmen to spare we are deep on defence and that is why we have been able to get rid of dmen, and don't doubt for a second the fact that Pheanuf is the real deal and we will see that this year.

we also resigned leopold for 2 years and 2.3 million dollars, and the modano deal is far from done as he turned down the stars offer and his agent said it is unlikely they could work something out:dunno:

vancouver is getting rid of some defensman, looks like they could be getting scott niedermayer as he might take less than the devils offered to play by his home as stated earlier

^^^only if Vancouver gets rid of a bunch of their players, they already are at 18 Million (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature.asp?fid=7006) . Vancouver can't afford them and Dave Noness admitted that.
