So I have been torn between my RX7 and a S2000 for about a week now and figured I should check in here and see what people think.

RX7
Faster
Rare
but
Bad on Gas, Insurance and not as reliable (so costs more to fix and has caused me stress because I worry about what could happen even though mine has been supper reliable.

S2000
Convertable
Cheap on Gas and Insurance
More Reliable

if you have the resources (money) and the time (working on your car alot) and the love (who doesn't), go for the rx7!

RX-7!!!! Mazda for life!!!:D

but in reality, if you wnat lower maintance cost, S2K is definity the way to go/ BUt then, of course, you have to pay to play.

rx-7 is my opinion, if you are sick of it though, try out the s2000, not a big fan of the car (don't know much about it) but you might like it :D

i would personally go for the s2k, but as previously stated, if u have the money for gas/maintenance/insurance, go for the rx7.

S2000

For the reliability and the performance. I don't think the two are off on performance TOO much...

I voted the S2k...because if you get a newer one you get a lil warranty...which is always nice...

having owned an FC before I am kinda familiar with the work involved in making an FD a daily driver...it's not that bad, BUT it not easy either.

as for driving...they are TOTALLY different cars...even though both hold a 50/50 weight bias...the FD is a BLAST to drive...whereas the S2k...it's nice...and a 9G redline is a hoot...but man oh man FD's are hot, and more rare...

But the reliability and ease of maintenace wins the S2K over for me...

i love the s2000! as u can see! but it is not cheap on gas at all!
its a 50 L tank that takes octane 91.... and u only get like 325-350 kms off a tank....

its way more reliable then a rx7... parts for the s2000 are expensive though, another thing which was surprising for me.... a stock clutch is like 1g... i was very surprised!

Rx-7 , you know the car now , and you know whats happenin in its little mind... If you sold your 7 you would want another one , but you could never get another one like it , or in good condition..

I voted RX7, I love those cars. S2K's aren't bad, but they just don't do it for me.

Vote currently tied at 18-18. We're not helping much, are we? :D

tied at 20 20 wow

i say rx-7 cause when i see one i still turn my head. most porches dont turn my head but rx-7's do.

like james mentioned keep it cause you know how it works, you know everything about your car.

s2000 is a great car, dont get me wrong, but i admire the rx-7's mroe.

I like the rx-7 slightly more, but keep in mind that it will be 10 years older than the s2k.

ApexDrift
08-06-2005, 07:00 PM
guess what i voted...

near perfect 50/50 weight distrabution, twin sequential turbos, nothing out there looks like it, i handles like a dream, gas on both cars are pretty much similar, compare the cock pits the 3rd gens interior is amazing the i dont even remember the S2k even having a glove if it did then all i remember that it wasnt comfertable, quality of both cars are similar, but you know that when mazda designed this car they had performace and pleasure in mind... at least thats what i read...

if you need a little change then pick up the spec 99 bumper  and call it a day...

but if you really want to sell it, give me a year and ill pick it up to match my white FC~! haha

no pistons?~ no problem!~

i voted s2k...seems like its tied again haha.....they are both great cars and i think it all comes down to personal preference (as the poll states too)....if you can deal with the 7's reliability and maintenance, which i guess you can since you already own it, then keep it.....you wont found another one like i tin the future, they are becoming few and far between....get what you like

Rx-7 for sure! I can't believe this is so close, for rarity and looks alone the rx-7 is way better, not to mention it's a sweet performing vehicle. Rx-7 is one of my dream cars, if you have one in good condition don't let go of it.

RX7 is back in the lead. I am thinking of maybe rebuilding the engine on the rx7 for peace of mind, and the reliablility issue is then almost gone. Then I would love to go Single Turbo but don't think I have the $$$ :D

i owned an fc. And i sold it. and guess what I regretted it I am moving to the states and buying you guessed it another fc. And possibly my girlfriend will be getting a convertible fc. Now if i were you I would think of how much your going to miss hearing those 2 rotors goin. i missed the sound and feel of my rx7 throughout all 6 cars I've had since and have hated all cars since. keep the fd. I could only dream of owning an fd and would surely get another fc or 2 to make up for not being able to get one.

and last of all an s2000 is still a fuckin honda haha

s2000 - The Torqueless Wonder

id get the s2k anyway, its more reliable then a rotary, and cheaper to maintain

JAYMEZ

rotarys can be reliable , its the driver that drives them that makes some of them poop , some people have put 100+k miles on the 13b engines..

Im a big fan of both cars but to me I think the RX-7 is a timeless design really. Even tho the shape is 10+ years old I just love looking at it. I havent driven either of the cars so I dont have much else to say but, if I had the money to maintain it, i'd definatly go for the RX-7.

Gotta toss in for the RX-7. I just don't like the S-2000 that much, although I will admit that the RX-7 is more expensive to maintain.

I noticed that your engine was recently rebuilt. How many kms did you get out of it before it let go? Cause? I recall your car having super low miles.

Rotaries in the FD3S seem to be finicky things. The engine may not at fault, but the support systems around the engine seem to let it down, like cooling, plastic AST, crazy amount of vac lines and check valves...etc.

It has been rare to see any FD with more than 160,000kms and still on it's original motor or turbo.

JAYMEZ
08-08-2005, 09:54 AM
I had way to many mods and no computer chip , it was a ticking time bomb , just like Jason always told me LOL ... But i was able to use the rotor houseings and my turbos were like new... So when it popped I strengthen it like no tommorow ... I wanted to pop so I could port the biatch :D

And yes your right all the support stuff is finicky , but most people replace those almost right away as "safety mods".

40:40 i vote for s2000. more reliable and cheaper to maintain

ApexDrift
08-08-2005, 12:17 PM
damn it... you guys arent making things easy for him... hmm i think performance wise... after driving the FD, but only sitting shot in the S2k i think the FD could out performe the S2k any day...

a S4 Tii stock turbo ported can spank a S2k i know cause i witnessed it happen
a stock 13bt-re runnign stock twins in a FC WILL MURDER a S2k at least off the line...(doesnt the re have more torque then the rew?)
a stock 13bt-rew stock twins too should take it off the like and in the mid range rpms... (this is only a assumtion since i havent driven a S2k)

YOU WILL CRY IF YOU SELL THE 7

CSM:
i heard you were moving??? change of plans? or driving the car down with you?

CSMRX7

I will mostlikely be moving to Texas within a year.

The RX7 will spank an S2000 in all aspects,

Braking and Handling aren't too far off but acceleration is no contest!!

I can rebuild my current engine pretty cheap, and then reliability isn't a problem anymore.

I am starting to lean towards the RX7 more.
I drove an S2K this weekend and it was nice, however it didn't have the "feel" of the RX7 which I love soooo much.

Rx7-46
S2K-48

so whats it going to be, i saw on your thread on the other forums bout the rebuild... my personal opinion is to just drive it like you stole it till it pops, and in the mean time save for a 20B, then wait to be the envy of every 7 owner in alberta!

Another vote for the RX7. I like the look of the RX7 better, plus the fact that it's a rare car. I'm starting to see S2000's on every other corner when I'm driving. Besides they're not very much fun to drive until you hit VTEC.

If you're loking for a change and a great looking car the s2k is a lot of fun (I know, I just sold mine). But since you own a 7 and seem to value performace, dont get the s unless you plan to track it. The s2000 is a very sluggish daily driver compared to its competition and will leave you wanting more. I can't speak to the 2.2L with more tourqe im sure that would be better but then you're in a while different price range.
