Do you have AGP or PCI-Express?

I have a radeon 9000 you could have for 75 bucks.

AGP 2x
64mb ram
TV tuner
RCA, S-Video, Cable/Antenna In

Ran Halflife 2 at 40 fps at 800x600 no AA no filtering and medium models and low textures. Never noticed any slowdowns so the game was very playable, just not as pretty as my newer cards.

by the way it was a AMD athalon xp 2500+ and 512 mb of ram.

The 7800 gtx would actually be the one to be "able to play the most advanced games".

Well older graphics cards can play today's games but it's just whether you can max out the graphics settings or not. If you're all about quality, and your motherboard actually supports PCI-Express, then get a 7800 GTX. Otherwise save your money and buy something cheaper. Tom's Hardware Guide's VGA Charts (http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20050705/index.html) would give you an idea of what to look for.
