McBain's Camera if you are ever in E-Town.

I would third Benyl comments as well. You'll save a few dollars buying a Sigma or Tamron but you'll end up with buyers remorse.

I've found that with lenses, you really get what you pay for!

www.bhphoto.com is :bigpimp:

or

locally I really like The Camera Store.

Cool, thanks.

What would be a good 2nd lens to look at?
The lens kit I have is 18-55mm F3.5-5.6.

A standard, wide or a zoom??

And should I specifically get lens made for digital SLRs or a lens that's compatible??

The 50mm f/1.8 is a popular second lens.

It's pretty sharp and versitle. The volleyball shots in this month's "PYLP" thread were all done with this lens as well as a large percentage of my macros.

Best thing is it'll more than likely be the cheapest lens you'll find!

it's better not to get the ef-s digital lenses as their resale and quality isn't as good as the full-frame ones. what do you want to shoot?

Probably won't get that or any Canon lens.
Should have mentioned I have a Pentax.

Good question. I'm probably gonna be shooting cityscapes, some portraits, outdoorsy crap...

I'd highly recommend going to The Camera Store...I've dealt with them for years and never had a problem. Most pro's will agree...

If you are thinking of shooting landscapes, go with a wider angle lens <50mm
If you are doing portraits go with a lens in the 80 to the 120mm range
Haven't looked at Pentax for a while but maybe see if they have a zoom lens that covers the 24-120mm range. Or maybe two lenses that cover that say an 18-35 for the wide stuff or maybe a 28-105 for a general purpose lens. Sorry don't know what to suggest as I shoot Nikon....

Talk to Chris at The Camera Store, he's a great guy and won't scam you.

Yeah ... Canon/Nikon lens are always better, however, some third party lens are not bad, consider the price .

example, Canon 24-70 F2.8L lens, is ~ $1800, and tamron one is only ~$600 ... :D

if you have the 18-55mm already, :drama: depends how much you want to spend, for small budget, you can consider the 55-200mm lens .... ;)
