Engine noise....

Hey Gang,

Quick question I wanted to put to you guys..........I am taking my bimmer to Sheni as it is making a kind of tick-a-tick-a-tick-a-tick-ish noise... Not sure exactly what it is... I haven't noticed a change in performance nor engine temp... MIght be idling a little rougher. The sound is VERY subtle, you can not hear it inside the car....

Any ideas? My guess is something to do with a valve/spark plug.......

its your spark plugs there lose mine did that

In all honesty, it could be any number of things. From that discription it could be your plugs, your gas, coils, timing. There are too many things that it could be. I'd take it in and get it fixed right. You'll find out from the what it will be. My best advice......get it there asap.

SHouldn't be timing as I just (in July) had ALL the belts replaced.

Engine knock?
Maybe you need a new knock sensor :dunno:

Hmm...not likely an engine knock as it isn't too pronounced, and from what I have heard an engine knock is less sublte/more noticeable........


Nevertheless, we'll soon see and I'll let you know what it is, for those taking bets.

Could be your lifters.....Is it more apparent when the engine's cold?

Took it to Sheni and he said that everything was fine, that the sound was coming from my intake and that it is normal....

So all should be good....I guess you can chalk it up to me being a bimmer newbie.....

You're intake is making a tick-tick-tick sound? No... Is it still happening? What oil do you use?
