For those of you who have legally imported RHD cars from Japan, I'd like to get a feel for what the insurance rates are like. I'd imagine the the F/I RHD cars aren't easy on insurance especially with VIN numbers that carry no history (well no Canadian history anyway).

I know this has been covered before, but there wasn't much response. I just thought that with more owners now, I could get a better idea on how much insurance might be.

its actually quite easy most companys can easily overlook the serial code and can insure it for you same day...basically what i have is insurance on the cost of the vehicle...what you paid is what they assess the value of the car as....im paying 147 a month for my gts-t and im a new driver so pretty standard

My friend's Skyline got insured based on engine size, as it wasn't listed in the database. Too bad they forgot to ask about the Twin Turbos.....

I'm insured at 222.00 a month with:
- one speeding ticket
- a U-turn
- an at fault claim.

So... pretty reasonable.

The PLPD is pretty much the same no matter if it is something like a honda civic or a nissan silvia or a ferrari (just for an example) I asked about this when i was getting quotes when i was still looking for cars. Lots of times to they will insure an imported vehicle under another north american vehicle. I have heard of silvias being insured as maximas or 240sx's. I just it just depends wheere you go

Thanks for all the input guys. It looks like the bottom line is that importing a RHD car from Japan won't carry unreasonable insurance rates. Good deal! :)
