I just heard on the radio and had both my girlfriends dad and my mom tell me that gas is supposed to be going up to around 99cents tonight for regular. I am not sure how this effects calgary but thats a 10-11 cent rise for us. Just figured I'd share and maybe warn about what might come your way.

I think federal government should start knocking a cent or 2 off the taxes. I don't mind paying the gas price but the cumulative inflation effect is gonna hurt.

I saw the gas at 99.9 at the chinook Shell earlier today, but as we were leaving the meet it was back down to 94.5

Why not? As much as I hate that fuckin company i still fill up there, I get 450-500 km on a tank depending on how I drive, and u get like 7cents back

I filled up this morning at Esso McKnight & Centre St N for 94.5 - 5.5 = 89.0 per litre.

I put in $12 of gas yesterday at 101.9  ...what a wicked time to do mods to your car that make you require premium gas

Does no one realize that there's such a thing called inflation? Besides, it's only a few dollars more per tank. It's not like the prices are doubling and tripling... Bunch of babies!

If you want cheap gas, go to the Tsuu Tina reserve. Cheapest gas in town. Or even down to the Shawnessy area where the wal-mart gas station is.

The price HAS doubled... you just have to take your data from earlier points. It was hovering around 50, IIRC, at the end of the 90's and into 2000.

:werd:

I was just looking at a 3 year chart and we went from 50-60 steadily up to around 1.00.

From 20 to fill to 40 makes a big difference, thats 80 a month. Nothing else I have to pay has gone up that much.

I suppose the rate of inflation is higher compared to other goods. But on the plus side, with demand for oil skyrocketing (especially China), it's good for the oil and gas industry and all the related industries (virtually all industries in Calgary).

The part that gets my blood boiling is the Canadian government. They're taking half of it as tax. They should really give some back instead of sending it out east to buy votes in Quebec and to a lesser extent the maritimes.

That said, we still have it good compared to Europe and some parts of Asia...

The price of gas is astounding.

Makes the race fuel I bought seem like a better bargain!

Now, if you have energy stocks or mutual funds, the price of the gas at the pump is small compared to the return you've made in the last few months!!

^ That's what I've been saying.

It took gas to double in 3-4 years. My energy stocks doubled in 1.

BTW, the demand is very high and production isn't catching up. The latest estimate is that we won't see $40 oil til early 08 (but being in Alberta, I hope it'll never drop below that). So it's gonna suck for a few more years.

This round of increases is due to Iran threatening to turn off their oil if UN stops their nuclear ambition. It rose 10% in about 2 weeks and we only see 5% jump in gas price. It will definately go higher before winter hits.

No relief is coming either as plants slowly switching to winter production and demand for heating oil increases when temperature goes down. I think we are stuck here for a good period of time.

i filled at tsuu tina last weekend and it was 82.0 not too sure what it is now. it's also true that the stations around ogden and spiller road are always substantially lower. i asked the attendant a couple of months ago and he said he can't talk about their prices :dunno:

Here is a 3 year historical graph of gas prices in Calgary. Personally I kinda like the idea of having oil at $65/barrel.

A pound a liter, eh? Is that, like, in cash, or in plain old getting bent over at the pump?

(Heh. Pump.)

FUCK OFF>

I went to the trusy tried and true Shell Gas Station by my place in McKenzie Lake. Big refuler there taking up the whole lot. Pull in and what do I see to my surprise?! Yeah, Premium was 1.12.4 .

WTF

Regular was 95.9, mid was 1.01, and premium 11 cents more. Ah man, thats shameful. Always love watching the price go up faster than the liters, haha.

Premium is only 7 cents higher than regular at the Safeway gas stations.

And this morning the CO-OP, Superstore and Safeway stations on 130th Ave SE were STILL 86.7 for regular at the pumps. Filled up 130L into the truck last night.

I only use shell gas unfortunatly.

My $1000 fuel experiment has shown I get roughly 75km more on shell gas than any other station in the city, based on 2 fill ups average per gas station brand.

So even though gas may be cheaper at another station, factoring in the lesser fuel ecconomy may prove it to actually be more expensive. I'm sure I can find another shell that is less than a buck 12 and a half, especially since I have to drive through the city today from McKenzie through to COP.
