So my dad is buying a new SUV and we have narrowed it down to three...

Grand Cherokee
Pros:
- 5.7 Hemi (340hp/370/trq)
- Huge towing capacity (7200lbs)
Cons:
- Unibody construction
- Most expensive (~$50,000 , $53,000 with nav)

4 Runner
Pros:
- Frame construction
- looks really nice
Cons:
- V8 is expensive ($50,000) and lower power (270hp/320trq)

Pathfinder
Pros:
- Powerful 6cyclinder (270hp/291trq)
- Good price (~43,000 fully loaded Off-road package)
- Frame construction
Cons:
- Ugly interior
- Ugly exterior

So the way I see it is the Pathfinder is a really good price, with decent power for the dollar, the 4 Runner looks great but is underpowered and expensive, and the Jeep has a fucking pimp engine but costs a little more, mind you it does look nice though espically with the chrome wheels.

Maybe someone that owns one of these can give their input and help aid our decision.

I use my parents' 4runner a lot, and I love it. Theirs is only a v6, but the 320tq on the v8 really sets it apart from the pathfinder in terms of towing/power.

With toyota, you also do get rock solid reliability, great resale value, and with gas hovering around a dollar right now, fuel economy aint so bad either. ( But then again, anyone who buys an SUV can't complain about gas prices ;) )

My advice would be to decide based on what your main use for it would be. If your'e going to be towing a boat every weekend in the summer, then maybe go for the jeep. If its going to be mostly city-driven, then the runner or the 'finder is probably a better choice.

Thought about an xterra or Murano. Both SUV's are worth considering.
But out of those 3 it would be the 4-runner.

the only thing about the Xterra is that it is not avalible in leather.
To get leather you have to have it done in the city for about $3500

I saw a video on the Jeep website where the Jeep 5.7 Hemi beat an Audi TT and a BMW 325xi in the quater mile, the Jeep ran with a time of 15.25 I believe.

I have a 2004 4-Runner and I have absolutely zero complaints about it. Not a fan of the jeeps at all.

yea i remember when they were showing that ad on tv.
but honestly your comparing a V8 with relatively small 6 cylinder engine and a 1.8t engine, and all those cars are different chassis types. the only thing similar with those 3 cars is the fact that they are awd/4wd. just my 2 cents:)

I would almost lean towards the jeep. The new Hemi is awesme, the quality is there, but the resale value is still domestic-bad. It would be a toss up between that and the 4runner. I don't even think the pathfinder is in the same league as either.

The 4Runner hands down. I checked an 05 yesterday. These cars are just amazing. The Jeep has a sense of outdoors which tells people that you like off roading and a bit more rugged. The runner is definately more luxurious and classy looking by far. And you know how well runners have been made thru the years, ask anyone who owns one. 4Runner

He got the 17" Chromies, and I think thats good enough for him.

The cool thing is that now both of our cars are the exact same colour :D

the jeep is just as good in quality as the others if not better, quieter than a jaguar and has balls, plus that gas milage isnt that bad in the 5.7L

What is really cool about the 5.7L Hemi is when you are driving a constant speed on the highway 4 of the 8 cyclinders shut off while still maintaining pressure, but you are only running on 4. Then when you start to change speed the kick back in without a hesitation or anything. Thats how you get such good milage out of such a huge engine.

Anyone ever see any Caddies from back in the day when they tried to make a variable V8 like that? What a fucking atrocity.

Nice choice on the vehicle. The yotas hold their value better, but the new Grands are really, really nice. I'm glad they've gotten away from the bubbly, Liberty-esque, styling and gone with something a little more "Jeep".
