View Full Version : "Bigger is better"

I have a disease. Since I was born I've been obsessed with big stuff. As a kid I had to have everything bigger than everybody else...didn't have to be better...just bigger.

Childhood Example:
When I was younger, all the kids were skateboarding. It looked fun and a lot like my favorite past time, surfing. I grabbed a friend and ran to my garage, took my brothers skateboards, one of our old surfboards, a bunch of tape, and a power hungry appetite.

At the end of the day we walked into the park with the giant contraption balanced on our heads to meet our friends. I hopped on and barreled down the parking lot (Which was VERY steep), then realized there was no way to turn it. Crashed into a curb and broke my arm, but had no regrets....well maybe just a little.

Now I'm a 19 year old entrepreneur who still is taking risks building BIG things and attempting to live a BIG life. I'm not egotistical at all...it's just a part of me.

It's time for me to take a big step and purchase my first car on my own. I'm making a solid income now, so no more relying on mom and dad's hand-me downs...the question is: what do I buy?

I obviously want something big and roomy...but gas prices these days are outrageous...as a young entrepreneur I'm trying to save every dime I can. Maybe I could get an SUV normal in size, but have the suspension raised a bit and get some bigger wheels put on? I'm just basically looking for something tall and beefy.

An example of beefy would be those five-seater escalades... doesn't look like a thin sheet of plastic.

Here are some footnotes for those who don't feel like reading:
-I'm naturally into big things
-$20k to $30k used or new
-Can be raised up without looking completely stupid
-Needs some power (yes, I will be offroading off and on)
-Has to have reasonable gas mileage (10mpg isn't cutting it)

Appreciate any help/suggestions greatly!

Look forward to posting on these forums often.

So you want a 4x4 that you can lift and go offroading with that also gets good gas mileage and looks good?

Big, seats a lot of people, 4x4 ready, not as bad on gas as a truck, looks really stylish, plus it's unique!

Get a Blazer, dunno how good for offroading they are, but I've seen some with big tires and raised up a little and they look alright. Motor isn't huge, think it may be a bigger V6 ~4.3-4.6L, my friend doesn't get very bad gas mileage with his but they are pretty nice all around.

On behalf of the entire big membership base of beyond (a pretty big forum), I extend you a big welcome. Well, a big pat on your back for having big dreams, but sorry to be a big disappointment, but those are big goals you have there for your big truck and big economy, and to tell you the truth, you've got way too big expectations.

btw - i love big gulps!

haha, nice

I think you need a big revamp on your large thoughts about life. A big reason to this is practicality, as well as realism.

This thread was initially very misleading..
Your name is "The industry" .. which to me sounds like a reference to the porn industry.. substantiated by title of the thread and the first words of your post

I personally dislike huge 4x4 SUVs, but if you want something that lasts, is good on gas and can be taken offroading - get an older toyota tacoma SR5, or perhaps a new one might fit the bill too. Toys are great on gas, ok power, and probably the best value truck you can find.

Welcome to beyond big guy

Just pony up and get a Unimog. They're enormous, and you'll never have to worry about paying for gas again - when you roll up in one all the gas station guys scatter, like "AAAHH IT'S GODZILLA!!"

Whats the fuel econ on an older Jeep YJ or a newer Liberty?

Personally I'd get one of these and lift it up:
