Will it be the next Tesla?
let me guess, it will be "oversubscribed"
I don't think any "EV" can be the next Tesla honestly. At least not as an EV only company. Tesla gets dragged along because of the Elon factor, as well as all the other stuff outside of EV's he does to be sure. Love him or hate him, he is the reason people flock to Tesla. Kind of a "Celebrity Stock" status if you well.
The rivians didnt do too well in terms of range when it was very cold either atleast when it was on that tv show last year. If you havent watched it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Way_Up I would recommend it.
The feature I did like was the tow charge.
Already lost in the ugly factor. Those headlights :barf:
From Jason Cammisa's instagram:
I find his opinions are generally pretty pragmatic and on point. Jonny Lieberman also raves about this thing, and he spent days in it (they created a 3 part road trip docu on MotorTrend).Quote:

But the hype is there. Do the general public just put market orders in before it opens and take whatever fill price it lands on?
Press event from Sep are mostly positive. Software still seems to be a bit underbaked at that point. They are also pulling a Tesla by delaying Oct deliveries to Feb 2022.
It's quirky. The only part I didn't like the frunk opening is too high. They need to copy what F150 Lightning is doing.
I've got Ford call options that expire in 2023 and 2024 so I have a bit of exposure to Rivian as Ford owns 12% of them.
The pricing has been online for almost a year now. Change to CAD at the top right. Pretty sure RBC is doing thier financing.
https://rivian.com/configurator/r1t
90 -130k CAD.
Not really that expensive for a new long range EV. The original Tesla Roadster was 100kUSD in 2008. A new Model X (The only one that can tow) is like 140k -170k CAD.
I think the Ford Lightning will be a bit cheaper since since half the truck is parts they already make.
I'm pretty excited for Rivian but the IPO is a nope. There will be a ton of price manipulation in the first year who knows what direction itl'l go.
stock up 50% and it just went live.
My order got filled, yay!
Nice you guys found common ground. Now come out for dim sum you legends.
I don’t feel so bad today.
Hold or Sell?
Attachment 102848
I would hold it, which means you should probably sell and lock in returns as I tend to watch all of my returns vaporize. I'm doing that right now on Ford call options. I should be negative by the end of next week with the way things are going.
It doesn't have to be a binary decision. Sell a portion (amount dictated by where you fall on the spectrum of confidence <-> gambling - for something like this, I imagine it'd be pretty skewed towards the gambling end unless you know something everyone else doesn't). You don't miss the boat if it goes to the moon, and you crystallize a bit of profit to offset losses if it falls.
I feel LCID will have more upside and their cars look great!
I hate when I buy into shit like this, I hit the refresh button every 5 minutes lol

I don't really understand who would buy Rivn or really any of these new car makers. Like typically we accept that first year models from major car manufacturers will always have some quirks and it's wise to wait a year before you buy. How does anyone think companies that have almost no mass manufacturing experience of automobiles are going to release a polished vehicle in the first year or two? Even Tesla is a good example of that with tons of QC issues early on.
Sell, sell, sell
do I FOMO the gains or FOMO the ride to the moon?
Fair but that doesn't speak to quality though. Delivery trucks aren't exactly a beacon of luxury. If stuff rattles or doesn't work it probably doesn't matter as their focus is entirely on a cost efficiency standpoint.
Like if a UPS delivery van has panel gaps ... who cares? But as a personal vehicle, kind of a deal.
Look at Tesla, the car is riddled with build quality issues and yet they keep selling.
Watch this.

You are basically betting on Bezo's ego to go against Musk's. Fundamentals be damned.
That said, R1T wear the $100K price tag way better than Tesla Model S out of the gate. Software still need some baking tho.

If you think this is an auto-maker stock, then you should for sure not buy it. If you think this is a pure technology company, then the items you mention are very unimportant. That is a binary decision. The market certainly has made it's opinion known. I personally don't think the market is often wrong.
The R1S looks pretty good actually

I SOLD at $147
Got scared haha.
Yea man. Not easy lol
Some take profits, some take the costs, some sell half, some sell all, some like me just watch it go up, up, down, down, left, right, left right etc. (cannabust stocks lol) but it's rising from the dead again.
Watching this makes me want to buy a Rivian now.
Also, the guy reviewing doesn't seem to really know what he's talking about. You can clearly see it's riding on 20's yet he keeps saying 21's and he says the flashlight and bluetooth speaker are charging wirelessly but you can see they charge by making contact, not wirelessly (via Qi charging is what I assume he means).
Small things to nit-pick, but still, it'd be nice if he got his facts straight. :burnout:
Maybe Edmund review is better

I love the utility but damn, it starts at $90k CAD where the F150 lightning starts at $68k.
Can I walk into a building a drive one home today? No care until then.
Why do people want this again?
Speed? Who cares?
Fuel economy? Who cares, it's a truck.
a Frunk? okay that's good.
you guys are going to lose your heads when you hear about SUV's.
Aftermarket trading at $154
Crazy
Not gonna lie, I think this is one of the best looking trucks I have ever seen. I would definitely rock one
That is light years more cool than a Tesla but this is not a segment I'm interested in being an early adopter in as an owner.
This was such a great episode, and is highly relevant to this thread

My gf had a Nissan Leaf once and after driving an electric vehicle, I realize how awesome they are.
Instant torque, quiet, no warming up the engine, cabin pre-heating/cooling etc. You just get in and go. This truck would be perfect for 90% of what I'd need it for.
Hit $169 this morning :barf:
Made enough to buy a Rivian yet?
Options trading started today.
ride or die
Ford cancel EV plan with Rivian

Amazon vans are useless

Fuck, every day I feel better and better for selling at $147 haha
bought some PUTS at the end of the day. Lets go!

Amazon will be the first commercial customer of Stellantis’ Ram ProMaster battery-electric vehicle when it arrives in 2023.
That did no favours for RIVN stock price which is now at all time low.
Time to buy the dip?
So Ford lost $3.1B and Amazon lost $8B due to their write downs on RIVN.
Is this the dip you are waiting for? It was $30 and some change two days ago. Ooof.
There are some people / institutions that bought in at the 52 week high of $179.47. That's gotta suck.
My Ford calls expire in January 2023. I need them to dump their shares of RIVN when the lockup period expires in a few weeks and focus on delivering F150's so I can cash out before they expire.
