I bet there is going to be a crazy mad rush to the grocery stores tomorrow to catch the 1 celsius one day reprieve.
My truck wouldn't start this morning in -36 because some wizard decided the plug ins should be on a timer, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Fuck I hate apartments. I wish I didn't fuck up my first try at adulthood.
Picked the kid up from winter camp at Cadicasu. Sibbald road in decent condition but some slippery sections. Windy as fuck out there right now. Highway 1 had blowing snow.
Fuck yeah I did. They sleep in cabins, so its not that hardcore, but apparently they were outside most of the day everyday.
I was out in a t-shirt this afternoon. So nice.
Now it's cold again and getting colder. Bummer.
I know a few that get debilitating migraines. This weather and week is going to suck for that.
Pretty common.
Back in the day our family moved from the coast of BC up to Kamloops due to the large barometric variances the coast has, which affected my mother's joints and caused headaches. As I then worked through adolescence, I too got debilitating migraines daily - which I presume would have been even worse had we stayed on the coast. I'd get headaches almost every time we went down to Vancouver as a young adult, so I can only imagine.
I think Calgary can be even worse with our huge temperature and weather swings. Luckily, I seemed to have grown out of my migraines - but can completely relate. At the end of the week we swing warm again, so my thoughts are with you both! :)
I rarely get headaches but I got one yesterday from it going from 0 to -8 in a manner of minutes it seems.
I got Hoar Frost on my Hoar Frost!
Yea it’s frosty out there today.
Isn't that what whore frost is?
I don't think it's fair to judge the frost on its appearance.
I like to call it whore frost. It sounds the same so nobody knows, but it amuses me.
I pronounce it like Danny DeVito in Always Sunny.
That wind outside is brutal, I am frozen just walking from my car a few steps into my kids daycare. WTB summer
Geezus.. The wind and cold out here in Strathmore is nuts.
After Saturday I didn't think it would get this cold.. boy was that wrong.

Yup looks windy out there.
Windy, cold and even some snow despite the cold. Yikes.
Cold, yes, roads poor.
Some forecasts are calling for -4 on Monday and the gc.ca website is calling fro plus 12. wtf?
So accuracy. Last night was supposed to be a low of -31 which is not very close to the actual low of -37.
There are certain patches of road that are basically ODRs:
- The uphill ramp from Fairmount Dr towards Glenmore near the Tesla dealership
- John Laurie that does that hard right then downhill towards Centre St
A bit of poop came out on the second section when I drove on it last night. The rear just gave up and had to work on it to get it back straight.
I was getting jiggy with it this morning on the deerfoot on-ramp from McKnight. Can confirm some poop came out
Have been enjoying the extremely low limits in the FRS everywhere.
she sure is slippery in some places. take it slow boys, don't rush things
Nearly dead Blizzaks have been fine.
The Michelin CCs have been great too. And you can corner properly with them.
The issue is there are a lot of glare ice intersections. Aside from studs no winters are going to really like that and rubber hates -30 temps.
I just call that 'berta driftin'
The trusty Duratrac's are a bit out of their league on the ice but it's impossible to stop the Ridgeline regardless. The AWD and traction control system is amazing but boring. I truly miss being able to slide around every corner like my old Ram
I got home to find this waiting for me. Nice. When Duramaxes get cold they leak out of the oil filter. I've never had this happen to any of mine before, but I know it's something that can happen.

I take it back. Edmonton roads are rut city
Environment and Climate Change Canada are very reputable.
It's actually the same group that does AFE's for large city projects.
It's a thankless job but somebody's gotta make a number up.
I feel very lucky to not be affected by large swings like that.
I've had several nasal and sinus surgeries in my life. Part of the reason I'm on permanent steroids for it.
I'll check into the peroxide. Sounds spicy!
Now that the grader has gone through and pushed all the snow to the sides, its super slushy, so slushy I watched a Ford 4x4 truck get stuck for 10 mins this morning next to my kids bus because he was only in 2wd mode. I dont know why it didnt occur to him to change it into 4 HI mode (maybe its not possible) he spun and spun his wheels for 10 mins trying to get out of the slush.
Sometimes electronic 4wd's yell at you if you try and shift it after youre already stuck.
Probably has a problem with those shitty ford IWE’s.
Am i insane or is there severely more gravel this year on the roads? I dont know if the gravel truck operators in the far SW gave a big ole fuck you to this end of the city but i have never seen this much gravel literally fucking everywhere in communities and main roads.
I was thinking the exact opposite. Up here in Coventry it's like the city crews forgot we exist. every intersection was glare ice for days with ZERO gravel to assist with traction. I swear it was like 4-5 days before any gravel showed up, and even then, it was just the slightest dusting.
So much gravel imo
They still gravel in super cold, whereas salt is more for warmer temps.
That’s my theory.
I have weird hobbies.
So is the deep freeze over?
I'm ironing my Bermuda shorts

Drove in from Canmore at 7:30pm last night. Roads were dry but crazy windy the last 2 days, hit a drift 40ft wide across from the cement plant and made me drift wide on the left hand turn. Nearly had a head on collision with the guy before me that apparently hit the barrier head on and came to a stop in the right lane (facing into traffic). No lights on the car of course in pitch dark with sideways blowing snow. Good times, guy must have been shitting bricks.
Evergreen golf course is open in Lethbridge. Good Alberta January weather down there.
