Why hasn't anybody talk about this yet?
PS5
Thinking about getting the digital one. #Router

I have nothing else to add.
Because the presentation was fucking meh. GTA 5 really? Fuck sake that game is going to cross 3 generations of platforms lol.
Still feel bad for XB1. Ahead of its time going all digital format. Bashed by Sony for doing that, while they’re embracing all digital. We lost family sharing because of it.
Any ideas how the new Xbox will compare to this?

Better on paper. I got both consoles last gen but I'm sticking with just Series X this time. I've barely used my PS4.
GT hasn't been relevant for a long time.
I'm still trying to finish games on the PS3 (finally finished Red Dead Redemption after not touching it for over a year lol) so PS5 is great news for me, means I will be able to bu a PS4 Pro for cheap later this year haha.
I'm going to buy it
The new Horizons looks awesome!
I thought the PS5 was going to out perform the xbox by a wide margin? Is it to do with the memory bandwidth?
I am looking forward to a 4k gaming rig though! hopefully a full 60 fps at the same time. would cost me double to build a new pc to do that.
If they're going to cross platform this much, they might as well remake games instead. Like games on PS1/PS2. Already successful with FF7 so I'd encourage more. Remake a Silent Hill or something on PS5.
PS5 is supposed to out perform the Xbox in real world use, despite what the spec sheet says. Also, PS is known to have a much better selection of exclusives. I don't play video games much anymore, but a full Gran Turismo (not the sport bs) with used cars is long overdue so i am excited to play that (whenever it releases, hopefully launch but not crossing fingers). The Last of Us 2 is another huge exclusive that i've been anticipating, but beyond that it'll sit beneath my TV for 7+ years and collect a lot of dust.
While it looks cool, I'd like to know what it adds feature wise on top of the PS4. And GTA5 - I beat it on PS3, then on PS4 and maybe I will make it a hat-rick and beat it on PS5 as well.
It always amazes me how much of a bargain consoles are. I know they make most of their money off games and peripherals so it's kind of like buying a printer (so they can sell you ink), but that SSD alone if purchased at retail would probably cost as much as the entire PS5. Using PC prices, that CPU is around $500, the RAM would be around $300, and a 10 tflop GPU (GTX 2080-ish) costs $1000.
I'll be buying it specifically for GranTurismo 7 in 4K60P for use with the PlaySeat. And maybe some titles running on the Unreal 5 engine which looks ridiculous.
Also, it's nice to see AMD getting these massive contracts with both PS5 and Xbox. Well deserved. Nvidia recently switched to AMD Epyc CPUs as well.
I have always preferred PS to Xbox personally but I feel like that has more to do with the games than the actual hardware.
Rumors are that GT7 will be a launch title, so I really hope that's true.
Been playing Forza 7 in 4K60 forever. GT7 launch title? yea right. GT was so much better than Forza back in the day, but fuck did they let that shit stagnate. Everything in between was just half assed. GT7 as a launch title? That's laughable. Maybe with 10 cars? haha
But yea, I have both XB1 and PS4. PS definitely has better exclusives.
Well the current rumors are a launch alongside the PS5 so I will remain optimistic. Hopefully it isn't a "development launch" or some BS like that. I forget which version it was, but I remember waiting like 2 years for a Gran Turismo after it's 'announcement' back in the day. Gran Turismo Sport was garbage (was that the one that had experience points?), I think that's the last one I bought, but I had a lot of fun with most of the previous titles.
Right, but this is much faster than those. Specs say 5.5 Gbps which is a lot faster than even a Samsung 970 Plus/Pro So I am assuming cost would be significantly higher. A 970 Pro 1TB is $500 and a 970 Plus 1TB is $350 and neither of those will do anywhere near 5.5 Gbps. That's what I was basing my comment off of, anyway. It's even faster than Gigabyte's PCI 4.0 SSD.
It looks like they are using some sort of custom PCI 4.0 design.
I suppose so, its inline with the new 980 PRO specs though (980 PRO being 6500/5000 speeds) ... but if the price is near the 970 PRO then I guess it would be a 500$ drive. I missed the 5.5gbps portion, I thought that spoke to some kinda data transfer within the CPU/GPU, not necessarily hard drive speeds.
I'm told by someone who works in the industry that the PS5 data management is a game changer. It's not just a way to get data to load faster, but it allows for the video card to be much more optimized to the environments, etc. It allows them to store vertex positions as textures or something?
My understanding is that it basically makes it so they are no longer bottle-necked by RAM (or at least not nearly as bad), so you can play games with cinema-quality graphics like pheoxs' above post showcasing the Unreal 5 engine. That was a big limitation in previous units apparently.
Let's start with the five main tenants that shaped the PlayStation 5's SSD:
Boots in a second
No load screens
Ultra high-speed streaming
De-duplicate game data
No long patch installs

SSD were dirt cheap last year. Basic Samsung 860 evo 256G was $45, SSDs have gone up quite a bit in the last few months.
lol i just upgraded to a ps4 in march... im bad at this
I'm still skeptical, as this is all going to be from a best case scenario perspective. You simply can't guarantee every game will have access to this drive unless you only play a handful of games on the core drive. That number will keep dropping as games get bigger and bigger. Look at the footprint of COD Warzone. It ain't getting better. There's no guarantee that every PS5 owner is going to shell out for $$$ external drive upgrades to guarantee this performance, and no confirmation if external additional storage has this performance capability.
Game developers can't design for the exception, so the exception loses out.
I’ll wait for the PS5 slim
GT5 was the only reason I got a PS3. Played it a handful of times. Skipped the PS4. Do I get a PS5 for GT7? haha, maybe I will wait for the PS5 Slim with flipstah and leverage a bonus redemption event at Shoppers in 2025.
I have 33 months left on my Game Pass Ultimate sub, guess I am bought into the MS ecosystem. lol.
Yea I have a 3 TB external strapped to my Xbox and I’m starting to push being full after what? 10 years.
But games are only getting bigger.
Gonna be pricey shit if I need a 3TB+ exotic ssd
Still have a 1TB strapped to an old Xbox 360. Hasn't been turned on in over a year.
The Ratchet and Clank demo really shows the PS5's power. The fact there is no loading between worlds is impressive. Haven't bought an Xbox since the original came out, and will probably stick with PS again. I just hope they give it enough storage options. I haven't bought a physical game in a long time, the DL is too convenient.
Physical games still require downloads. Physical sales are essentially just licenses in a box these days.
so is it better to get the one with the optical drive or without?
I was pretty mad when I had traded in a bunch of ps4 games that I ended up getting digitally (Discs are the devil) and I had to download the entire game as I didn't have the disc. That was a big wtf from me.
I was lucky to get the incorrect 84 gb cod update on my xbox and for some reason it wasn't going on over night and since I was racing f1 online, it took like 3 days lol.
I did a 2tb internal in my x1x luckily so I can have more games installed, but have to remove an indy game every time cod updates.
Not sure what console I'll get when they're released. I've been playing Xbox for a long time but was originally a PS fanboy. Everything I play is on both platforms, there are games on PS that I'd like to play though (uncharted, mlb the show..)
+1
I bought the PS3 just for GT. Im a huge fan.
GT6 took forever to come out. It really pisssed me off. By the time it did it, it was not even that great. It felt so unfinished and it felt like they were trying to do everything but there was no real game. The cars were shit. Like 10 versions of the same car. There were thinks on the driving they could have improved like sound effects.
It totally put me off from getting the PS4. I played Forza on the Xbox a few months back and it was amazing how tech had progressed.
GT7 as a launch title....? muhahahahaha.
I think I might go to the dark side this time and get the new Xbox...

2PM.
I wonder what the price will be. I'm thinking $449/$499 USD.
Apparently $629 Cdn starting in mid November.
Yep $499 and $629. You can preorder now through Bestbuy:

EB games has a couple of bundles:

Gran Turismo..?
Tires are expensive. What's the best driving sim to learn how to drift in the comfort of my home nowadays?
Mario Kart for sure
I had a digital edition in my cart on amazon but couldn't pull the trigger. The launch lineup for both systems is terrible. That and now $90 games from sony. PS+ including some good PS4 games though is nice for those that didn't already have.
Will wait until there is a black ps5 and more actual ps5 games since some are crossgen after all the whining about xbox.
I was always a fan of Diddy Kong racing

Are new consoles worth buying in the first year? 2 years?
n00b question, does this mean if I get a PS5 and buy old PS4 games I can play them on the PS5 with improved graphics?
It depends. If you have a PS4, games that have 4 Pro optimizations will look better, equal to what it looks on the 4 Pro. If you have a 4 Pro, not much improvement. If a game has a free upgrade to PS5, that will look better. Otherwise, the only improvement is more stable frame rates.
Xbox backwards compatibility is way better, as all games gets HDR as well as 120fps, so they will all look better.
I'm pretty sure the answer is no but are the disc games vs digital games going to be different in price? If they're both 90$ I'd rather get the actual disc but if digital will be cheaper then I'll probably just get the digital console.
I hope digital is cheaper. I have enough coasters at home already.
Anyone else think the PS5 looks very similar to the XB 1 aesthetically?
At least much more so than previous playstations

I think that theory is just you lol
This is the original, but yeah, it's just him.

PS5 or Xbox is better?
Yes
I didn't manage to get my hands on a PS5 preorder, does anyone have an extra that they would be willing to trade for the Xbox Series X? I grabbed two of those in lieu of one of these.
