No way Mercedes or Lewis don't want to get a deal done and move on. But I'm sure GR would love it if they couldn't agree to something.

Oh man what happened to his hair!
Jenson Button has joined the glorious Williams team as a senior advisor.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/55767090
Quote:
Jenson Button has joined the Williams team as a senior adviser.
The move takes Button back to the team that gave him his Formula 1 debut in 2000, before he went on to become 2009 world champion and win 15 grands prix.
Button, 40, said Williams' role in his career and the "history and heritage" meant they were "close to my heart".
He said: "I am going to do my part to help the team back to the front. I can't wait to spend time with the drivers and the staff."
Williams were bought out by investment group Dorilton Capital last summer, and founder Sir Frank Williams and his family are no longer involved. The team are going through a restructuring aimed at reviving their fortunes after three seasons of finishing last in the championship.
New chief executive officer Jost Capito, who starts with the team next month, said: "Bringing Jenson back on board is another positive step to help us move forward as a team, both on and off track.
"Jenson has always been a friend of the team and so it is great to welcome him back into the Williams family.
"Back in 2000, Sir Frank saw the promising talent Jenson had as a driver and gave him his first opportunity in F1.
"He more than fulfilled that initial promise throughout a glittering career that culminated in World Championship glory.
"More recently, he has shown his acumen in both the business and broadcasting worlds and remains a widely respected figure in the paddock. All this experience will add another layer to our transformation both technically and as a business."
Williams said Button would "provide advice and guidance to the team at Grove, along with helping support and develop both race and academy drivers" and would "attend a number of grands prix" with the team.
He will continue in his role as an analyst for TV channel Sky Sports.
What's Newey doing at a seat fitting?
Interesting video.
I do find it a bit strange that James is smiling throughout this whole video explaining all of the issued and troubles to the car. If anything you would think hed be pissed off, so I wonder if they overtook many of those rule changes and made it work decently. Or he was happy during the video. Time will tell.
Also, see you later DAS!
Lewis signs a one year deal with Merc.
I am surprised that it is only a one year deal.
https://www.planetf1.com/news/finall...unce-new-deal/
I'm not surprised. Hes going with the safe bet as I'm sure Merc will dominate yet again given the minimal differences in the car this year. Then next year he is open to go to whoever has the best car (yet again).
I was kinda hoping for George to be in that merc to make it somewhat interesting year.

Good news for RBR.
Alonso hit by car while cycling though, seems to be OK with some broken bones so might miss season start

Does anymore know if they publish fuel flow and amount used data by race?
I wanted to see if Salo's comment about Ferrari being punished via fuel restrictions were true.
Fuck that Green on the AM looks amazing.
The pink on their race suits doesn't look right though. Their merch is awesome though.
Update on F1TV

The new version is available on F1TV.com today, March 8, and upgrades will be rolled out on iOS, Android, Amazon Fire tablet devices and Roku in the first half of the season. F1 TV for Apple TV, Android TV devices and Amazon Fire TV are currently in development and will also be launched later this year.
Quote:
Improvements to the F1 TV service include:
Enhanced technology – The new version focuses on performance and quality; users will now be able to enjoy streaming video at 1080p at 50fps for the first time – ideal for watching fast moving action.
Cast to TVs -Users will be able to cast F1 TV using Chromecast and AirPlay (iOS) – enjoying live and on-demand F1 content on their TV.
Improved user experience:
Improved player controls – Users now have full control over the live stream; play, pause or rewind to watch that overtake again, across every channel, including On-board Cameras.
Improved channel switching – An improved interface allows users to easily switch between F1 TV’s multiple additional streams: Pit Lane Channel, Data Channel, Driver Tracker and On-board Cameras.
Improved user interface – A new, modern interface will allow users to easily browse and search F1 TV’s archive content, as well as F1’s exclusive series and documentaries.
They have been so slow with the Apple TV app. Hopefully we see that this year.
Will it work though. Was not impressed at all last year
I think I’m the only one that’s had mostly trouble free with F1tv haha. Running on iPad, pretty much have a race on every night at bedtime.
I think most of the issues were for the people who wanted to watch the race live and the buffering issues. For me, I would just wait till the race replay was available (not waking up early is a bonus) and had a good experience on my computer/iPhone/etc. Just needed to make sure I kept myself off social media and not check texts before I watched the race.
Does anyone use a VPN to watch free feeds from other countries? Or does that not work anymore.
I am considering subscribing to F1TV instead of watching F1 on TSN. I have ditched TSN as I don't watch much sports anyway. Anyone here just watch F1 with F1TV and nothing else? How does it work?
I only watched it on F1TV last season. It's decent. The commentary crew is the ITV guys so you get the same commentary as in TSN. You don't get any of the before and after shows that you got on TSN though, F1TV have their own.
As for actually watching it. I used my iPAD and streamed it to my TV with screen mirroring. This worked about 70% of the time. The other 30% there was way too much lag and it kept freezing on the TV, when that happened I just watched on the iPAD. This year I'm going to try something different. Use my iPAD to log in to the website and stream the race from there, apparently you can screencast from the website. Then I can flip back to the app and use it for timing or in car camera. Overall I didn't mind it too much once I got used to the process.
The Canada support for any of the apps is terrible, they have a native Firestick app, Roku channel, etc but they aren't available in Canada, so you're stuck doing the casting thing. None of the built in browsers are compatible with the sticks either. I do have a sideloaded F1 TV on my Google TV, but you're navigating a mobile app rather than an optimized one which can get frustrating.
I just don't know why we can't get past some of these dumb hangups like inability to cast anything from my cell phone to my chromecasts, even through chrome browser. Its fine using my laptop but its just a pain.
Murray Walker had passed away.
RIP.
He was a very good commentator. Loved his voice.

Damn Tsunoda has been killing it in testing - I am very impressed. Surprised at the under performance of AMG so far but knowing Hamilton he's probably not pushing it all the way on purpose.
Mercedes isn't known for showing their cards this early. You won't know their true performance until Q3, in a couple of weeks. But Yuki is putting in a good showing so far.
Tsunoda looks solid. Consistent and error free.
RBR seems to have fixed rear end stability. Able to put the power down.
Mercedes rear end looks brutal compared to last year. I’ve never seen Hamilton spin so much in testing. There’s just no rear grip in low to mid speed corners under braking or laying down the power. Of course it doesn’t mean much if they’re a second faster with instability at the limit.
Mazepin looks decent too amidst all the controversy surrounding his behavior.
For the guys wanting to watch F1TV on Apple TV, reddit came through with a solution. Just need to install testflight on your ATV and iphone, then click this link to add the app to your device. Took 2 minutes and working flawlessly.

Ive been watching Tsunoda's rise in F2. That guy is the real deal.
Thanks. Works pretty good, except my Apple TV is on DNS service, which I have to disable. F1TV seems to be blocking VPN/DNS services hard.
Weird that archives only goes back to 2018 tho. I watch a different race nightly, been rewatching the 2000's to help me sleep lately.
Some of things I have been seem add up to Ferrari using fuel pump speed (frequency) to fool with the acoustic based measurements of the flow sensor and stuff additional ~ 50hp of flow through . FIA added a 2nd flow sensor with encrypted data. Fuel pumps are now standardized and the 2nd flow sensor operates at a different unknown frequency which changes from race to race.
March to 8 starts this weekend.
Hopefully it is hammertime from lights out.
I hope FP2 is indicative of the up coming season where we have 3 teams fighting it out. McLaren, RB and Mercedes all look to be close right now. Ferrari and AM are also right in it as well! Can't wait for this weekend to see who is truly on top when engines are turned up and everyone's real pace is shown.
Anyone up for a live zoom watch party for Sunday since it's at a reasonable hour?
I would, but unlikely able to commit. 9AM is prime chasing the baby/toddler around time.
Actually enjoyed watching the shorter free practice sessions with everyone out on track. Lots happening.
game time!
Let's go Max!
Getting spicy...
Tsunoda. Nice.
Game fucking on.
Fuck ya max
Mazepin spoils Vettel's debut with AM. Would have been nice to see Perez up there but what a lap by Max.
I just want Ham to win his 8th championship then I don't care if Max wins. So I gotta root for Lewis one last time plus it doesn't hurt he drives for AMG.
Mercedes ran a perfect race.
Going to be a great season. Lewis drove an awesome race.
Beat by the undercut.
I didn’t understand the turn 4 issues. A directive was sent out that track limits were only to be enforced there for qualifying. Then mid race they changed their mind and started enforcing turn 4, which in the end fucked over Max’s pass.
edit - Max’s pass was irrelevant of turn 4 enforcement. You can’t pass off track period. I mistakenly thought they redrew the limits in the directive, I was wrong.
Agreed, turn 4 was a shit show. Should have been enforced the entire weekend. If you're doing it for Quali then do it for the race as well.
Great team effort for Lewis and Mercedes.
Good come back drive from Perez. Tough one for Max.
Congrats to Yuki for points in his debut.
I was expecting more for AM, Vettel seems to have the same form from last year.
Good job Lando, McLaren #3 to start the season.
Leclerc is really outperforming the car in qualifying and the race.
How embarrassing for Mazepin.
Did anyone notice Yuki reversing on the grid after realizing he was in the wrong spot when Perez was stranded? I thought he might be punished for that.
does Mazepin just suck?
Perez got an axe to grind and probably loved to see Vettel getting a Merc engine didn't help one bit.
Why didn't Red Bull risk penalty and not hand back the spot to HAM?
I thought he got a break because they have to redo formation lap. Promising talent.
https://youtu.be/IR9mTzZGJzY
Haas is a piece of shit. They basically took last years car, cut out the floor, threw on the harder tires and let them go while focusing on 2022 rules. The car has no traction and both drivers were spinning getting on power.
Hate on mazepin all you want but the haas is a piece of shit and will be all year.
Time to start the 2022 thread?
Attachment 98677
Oooof big crash
HAM is one of the luckiest drivers, I think ever. Goes off track and a lap down, has to replace his wing, and just as that happens race gets red flagged and he gets put back up onto the lead lap. Unbelievable.
I was just reading about the Miami race they are adding next year. What a POS "track".
