I just got my urethane body kit, but i have to make cut outs in it for my exhaust.
Does anyone know the best method(what tools to use) to cut into a painted urethane bumper. I'm just worried about chipping the surrounding paint, or the cut not looking clean enough?
Any and all suggestions are welcome. I have access to electric and air cutting tools, so its not an issue of what I have, its just whats will make the cleanest cut.

you could try using a dremmel just my suggestion

If you have air tools, I'd use a die grinder with a bit like this:

maybe not that aggressive, but cylindrical anyway. When your grinding, to be safe have the grinder on the inside of the bumper so if you slip or anything you'll just fuck-up the inside of the bumper, and not the paint. (learn from others mistakes) :angel:
Just make sure you have the area you want to remove marked or taped off. Stop an 1/8 - 1/16" from the edge, and finish it by hand - 100grit - 220 - 320, then touch-up the edge with some paint.
Slowly score with a sharp razor blade the area you want to cut out. Then follow that again and again pressing harder each time. Dremel is just going to make a mess of it.

After a couple strokes you should be able to bend and break off the peice you wish to remove. Then you can sand down any rough edges.
Cool thanks for the input. Should I tape both sides on the cutting surface, or just the surface i'm cutting on?
Using the razor blade method, would it be best to cut on the outside or inside of the bumper?
either or, no tape needed. just go slow the first couple passes to make sure your line is straight :thumbsup:
the best way i've done it is tape the painted side, then use a soldering pencil with a Xacto knife blade. cuts through it like a hot knife through butter! :D
well just to update you guys. I cut out the opening for my exhaust using an exacto knife.
I found out that i should have did it from the outside of the bumper, as when i went through, it started to take the paint with it.
If i had started on the outside, it would have made a clean cut in the paint, preventing it from peeling.
Anywho, i've got a few spots with flaked off paint, but ill just touch it up with some colour match in a can stuff.
Thank god i didn't do the drummel approach, who knows how much paint would have flaked off.
