the first episode wasn't bad, but I got many vibes from "the walking dead"
That’s because TLOS is a walking dead ripoff, with a shocker in the storyline right up front. That seems to be what ppl think makes it better.
I found the game (#1) to be a huge grind and #2 better, which is the complete opposite of gamers reactions. Think they hated the lgbtq themes or whatever in the 2nd game.
Caught the show in background as the kids watched it, it diverges from the game quite a bit, but in a good way. Compressed a lot of the grind from the game such as Spoiler:
the story leading up to meeting Ellie and finding out she’s immune.
LGBTQ hate is from the DLC which I heard will be included in Season 1 of the show.
2nd game got the hate is for the plot which I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't played it.
Writer got balls, let's see if they carry this forward into the show's season 2. And I don't know that that plot will work well in an non-interactive show.
Don't know why they took the time to more thoroughly develop the Sarah story though, they could have covered more in that first episode had they followed the game story more.
More impactful shocker. When playing the game that felt like lazy writing to me, so I liked the show’s development more. If anything the game should’ve spent a bit more of the grind with Sarah at the start instead of pointless walking and killing later on.
I always felt naughty dog learnt a lot of lessons on their style of storytelling with this game, and nailed it for uncharted 4 and subsequently tlou2.
Never played the games but the hype didn't live up in my opinion.
First episode was good but nothing spectacular
Dystopian first episodes are a tough thing to do because there's a lot of information that needs to be conveyed to the audience. It's a lot of set-up and exposition to show what the world has become (what is FEDRA, who are the Fireflies, how do people communicate), and also how the characters fit into it.
I never played the game, so I didn't get the hype of the show other than filming chunks of it near my place. For me, it's setting a tone that the show is going to be more about people and the world, than about the Zombies themselves. Based on the first episode, I don't think it'll be a version of '101 fun ways to impale a zombie' like I think TWD was.
TWD was never really that good. Hopefully this is different.
Though having never played the games I am not in any rush.
TWD and it's spin-off (forget the name) started out strong but I ultimately lost interest, even though zombies are my favourite.
I guess let's see how this one goes. Haven't seen it yet, wasn't even sure when it was coming out but will try to watch it.
Is this the one they shot in Alberta or is that the TWD spin-off I referred to. Getting confused with all the zombie stuff.
George Romero would be turning in his grave if he wasn't walking the earth and probably stuck on Deerfoot.
With HBO merger and cost cutting like a motherfucker I doubt there’ll be a season 2. They spend over 100m on 10 episodes for season 1.
And ya tons of filming in Calgary. My office looked down on several sets so I caught a lot of random filming.
They shot it in Edmonton as well and some other remote Alberta locations. I will watch it for that reason alone to see if I can make out some locations.
Now, I've never heard of this before, but these comments leave me to believe it's another tired take on the fucking zombie thing? Yawn.
No. All ideas are now super new and original.
