I also white knight for AC. Clearly I don't work for them.
I agree. Fly a segment on Emirates and realize how mediocre AC is, and how terrible WJ is.

Yea, but the Middle East Airlines are subsidized by the Government and they break all sorts of human rights type stuff (e.g. firing chicks for gaining 10 pounds).
I'd still fly EK > AC > WJ, though. AC business class used to be pretty good, especially after they figured out their entertainment system which always used to overheat but it's also priced to be very "premium".
Yea I don’t think fat shaming flight attendants scratches the surface of Middle East human rights abuses
Lol feminists never speak out over there
only once anyway.
Can we export some of our feminists there? I suggest for free.
I nominate "male feminists" first.
Preference for any that are named Justin.
Flown almost exclusively with Air Canada and United since late 2018, but back when I had status with SkyTeam through Air France/KLM (2016-2018) I was upgraded almost everytime with Delta - in North American flights the flight attendants were constantly calling people forward on the aircraft after boarding/before takeoff to sit in a better cabin so that all seats upfront were filled. There even was one incident when I was moved around 4 times and was given first class meal/drink service at the back of the plane plus a $200 US voucher for my troubles
By contrast I've had Star Alliance status with United since late 2018 and have never received a single upgrade with Air Canada - been told by Air Canada staff that you only get those if your Star Alliance status is with Aeroplan, but I still got the other Star Alliance perks (priority check-in/security/boarding and Maple Leaf Lounge access). Air Canada will leave business class seats empty on North American flights. Upgraded most of the time when flying on United, and even received free upgrades on transpacific/transcontinental flights (though I suspect in these instances, it was because economy was overbooked). I haven't witnessed the same practice by United of upgrading passengers after boarding like I had on Delta (I suspect United does this at check-in instead). However on United I somehow received an upgrade to first class this past Tuesday on a "basic economy" ticket, even though I thought "basic economy" fares were precluded from free upgrades. This flight was also maybe 30% full and I had an empty seat next to me. All-in-all, I agree that free upgrades are much more difficult to come across with Air Canada than on American carriers (at least Delta and United).
Only $1800 away from my Westjet Platinum Status for 2024 already...got yet another companion voucher I won't be able to use
I think once I hit that, I'll try to go for Air Canada 50K, cos the 35K is now meaningless
More new destinations direct from yyc.
https://dailyhive.com/calgary/westje...ry-new-flightsQuote:
.Starting in May, there will be two weekly WestJet flights between Calgary and Austin, five flights between Calgary and Detroit, three flights between Calgary and Chicago, and three between Calgary and Washington Dulles in Virginia.
In June, new domestic flights will be added with three flights between Calgary and both Moncton and Thunder Bay.
Chicago or Austin are gonna be sweet
Frequent flights to Detroit and Chicago? What are they trying to do, get all their customers shot?
But seriously I don't know many ppl who have ever been to Detroit. Wonder who that route is supposed to be for. Right across the river from Windsor so maybe it's that? Is it just a plan to rotate cities and people will fly to wherever the direct flights go to? Detroit does have a pretty major airport so maybe its for more/better connections? Could also be demand the other way around...TONS of American visitors from all over the place coming to Banff from what I've encountered. Social media has made it a really popular destination in recent years.
Direct flights to DC and Chicago is a nice start. Would be nice to have directs to Miami again. For a weekend getaway those direct flights make all the difference.
I'd rather take a swift kick to the nuts than go to Miami for the weekend.
