Mid season driver change. That's big news. Not too surprised considering Gasly's piss poor performance. But I still kind of expected this wouldn't happen until next season.

You mean Albon is in.
I can understand why they would give him a go over Kvyat since he technically already had a chance. Seems up in the air for 2020 though. Except obviously Seb returning to RBR and Alonso to Ferrari.
Cant see this being a good move imho. Way too early for Albon.
Exactly. Can't be worse than Pierre... we'll see.
Other reason why they didn't go for Kvyat is that they need a good Benchmark in Toro Rosso. They also already know what Kvyat is capable of.
Can't have a Rookie and the other driver just being on his 2nd year in F1.
Hope I'm wrong:

I think they should have pulled the plug earlier. Bit of a shame for Gasly. Perhaps it was more psychological for him..? Who knows.
Good to see Red Bull putting in young blood.
As I posted in the other chat... I think most people, including Gasly, could see the writing on the wall.
I am way more surprised Albon is in and not Kvyat. I thought Kvyat drove a hell of a first half and deserved it. But then again, Redbull love to throw curveballs at their drivers
IMO Albon has been more impressive than Kvyat this year. For a half year test, I dont think it's a bad idea for Albon.
It's a perfect move to pick the 2nd RBR driver for next season. They know what Kvyat can do against Verstappen, they know what Gasly can do and now they have the final data point with Albon. Kvyat with be a good baseline to compare Gasly as well in the Toro Rosso.
RBR would likely be in 2nd place if Ricciardo was still driving for them.
