Let me count the ways this video is embarrassing...
omg
What a joke lol...

Why couldn't he just get off the ice like his buddies? He's not a kid, he is 21. The privilege of being white in Canada.
2 female cops completely ineffective at taking down the kid while their sizable male partner stands there and does nothing.
Weird video. In America they would have tazed his ass.
How hard was it to pull his jersey over or Hextall his knees? There's a goalie stick right there.
I would love to head south and set up a 200 person hockey game at this rink.
That was cringey. I hope that lady learns that yelling swear words doesn’t make her any more intimidating than the avg 5’3” woman.
LOL at those idiot kids crowding around the cops after with their cell phones and that one idiot "touch me I dare you" #whitepriveledge
Those two women were culturally appropriating police officers.
What a fucking idiot. Moron deserved a taser demo, though doubt it would have worked through hockey pads. Guess they could have just shot him.
2020 is the worst.
Coles notes?
No facebook, no watch. Boo
^ I don’t have fb in my phone and it worked fine
Coles:
Cops power trip and say you can play hockey under health orders (shitty but they aren’t wrong), all but 1 hockey douche get off ice. Hockey douche stays on ice and starts arguing with cops, hockey douche decides to fight the cops, women cops suck at fighting, hockey douche eventually gets arrested.
Hopefully the next step is hockey douche’s life is ruined.
#hockeydoucheslivesmatter
Someone calls in a complaint about too many people on the ODR and adjacent skate park. Bylaw shows up, calls in CPS for help and they ask everyone to leave the rink and the skate park. Most do but one guy doesn't. Female CPS Karen him into submission (eventually) and they use a knife to take his skates off.
This is a no win situation for these ladies. They are shown to be completely ineffective when physical force is attempted but what can they do, taser the guy? That wouldn't be reasonable. Just let him go? Can't do that either. Call in the big strong men to help them out? Nope.
I have three questions out of this:
1. The guy had skates on, just move a few feet back, it's not like anyone with boots on would be able to catch him...lol.
2. On a serious notes, the rinks aren't closed, they just have capacity & usage rules. How is it that bylaw & CPS can just demand everyone on the rink and the skate park leave all together?
3. Why take a knife to the skates, how is that easier than just untying them? It's pretty obvious that was just a "fuck you" to the guy, wrecking his property.
Are you seriously defending the two officers?
The kid was upset and should have complied but seriously, he’s a kid.
The two officers acted like uneducated over reacting fools in that situation.
Worst was the male officer just stood there and observed.
I could have talked that kid down in minutes.
Was it like a 12 year old that got taken down? You'd think he would know better
Bad optics. Just bad all around. No winners here.
Why the fuck is everyone saying hes a kid? He is 21 years old. I am sorry you are not a kid.. maybe a immature young adult but not a kid.
As an adult you should know better but we live in a time where everyone needs to be somebody and do something to add fuel to the fire with everything around how people are feeling with the police currently.
Everyone can always say things could have been handled differently or done in a way that could avoid situations but YOU were not there and basing your thoughts and feelings off of a video recorded on a phone.
I was an idiot at 21 too, but always managed to avoid the back of a cop car with this simple tip. Follow directions from police. Pretty simple.
His parents are going to be pissed that they have to buy him new skates
Isn't there a portion of the story where the bylaw officer asked them to get off the ice before he called the police?
Douches gonna douche. Should we move the legal voting and drinking age to 25 until they become adults? I don't need more "kids" voting in dumb politicians.
This is what happens when kids don’t learn consequences for their actions as a kid.
Those other teens are downright embarrassing.
This world is a special place.
Wasn’t the “kid” 21? An adult by literally any definition.
Pro tip, when the police give you a lawful order, when they tell you you are under arrest, comply. This isn’t complicated or difficult.
Personally I think they should have used far more force. Fuck this douche who thinks he’s above the law and tries to take it out on 2 front line officers.
But I’m sure you know far better than the officers Mr Aspen Commando.
The "kid" was playing dumb trying to look tough in front of his friends and wasting the cops' time. No one's got time for that. He wasn't arrested for playing hockey. Aspen Commando's always the smartest guy tho. Dat A++ condesension.

Quote:
A 21-year-old was charged with obstructing an officer, resisting arrest and violating the public health act.
Quote:
It started on Thursday afternoon when bylaw officers responded to reports of 40-plus people crowding the Southwood community rink and skatepark.
“A peace officer came sat in this car and got out and… told skateboarders we have to go and [were] not allowed to be there and we all refused and he called for backup for other police to come,” Sanoubar said.
Quote:
Corwin Odland, with CPS public affairs, said people refused to disperse from an outdoor skating area after being advised that they were violating public health orders.
“When our officers arrived, they spoke to the same people about the health orders and several left without incident.
“When told he was being ticketed for not leaving, he refused to identify himself and skated away from the officers,” Odland said.
Police said the individual refused to identify himself when asked to do so by an officer. He was charged with obstruction of justice.
“The officers explained this legal requirement to the man and tried multiple times to get him to voluntarily step off the ice and comply with their orders before they moved in to physically take him into custody. At this point, a struggle ensued and an officer was knocked to the ground,” Odland said.
“We are seeing officers continually put into these untenable positions where they have to diffuse and support bylaw,” Ayliffe said. “What’s happening through our lens is good people are trying to find pieces of what they want to do in a changing environment and it is stressing people out to the max.”
I guess should start including 21yo under the Young Offenders Act now too? Maybe up the drinking age to 25, and age of consent to 23 while we're at it. They're all just kids after all.
Skate laces are like $10 lol.
21 years old isn't a kid anymore, that's an adult. Either way I'd just get off the ice and move on with my life instead of trying to make a scene.
This is the real tragedy. People feeling like they saved the world by calling in a hockey game. 1984 gents, we are living in it.
Scenario 2.
Kid gets off the ice like his 5 buddies are telling him to do. They quickly talk it out and back on the ice within a few min.
I've managed to go my entire life without a cop putting handcuffs on me. And y'all know I like to run my mouth. I need lessons from this dude.
Age and maturity not the same.
If real estate doesn’t work out 89coupe can go law enforcement :D
Thanks for the context.
The rules clearly state why this is the case. Generally speaking, outdoor activity can’t have more than 10 people, and within those 10 people you have to stay 2m away from people outside your household. Hockey clearly can not happen under these restrictions. Olympic oval skating, there are secondary rules specific to this facility since it’s a large area. The total capacity raised to 100 people, 2m restriction from people outside your household.
It’s not complicated, the rules are all in a 2 second google search. The Olympic plaza rules (and every other ODR) has rules posted on site. These douchebags are gonna ruin it for everyone. We’ve been skating at several ODRs the last week, and ya some are brutal with full pick up hockey games going on. We just use another rink to comply. We’ve had kids ask to share the rink with us when we have a rink to ourselves, and split the rink in half and stay 2m away. It’s not fucking hard.
Classic example of everyone clambering for more rules and restrictions, then immediately deciding that the rules don’t apply to them.
Bonus points for fighting the cops about it.
Does CPS not carry mace anymore? Would have been an excellent opportunity to break out the pain juice.
My record isn't so clean. Been in cuffs 4 times and in the back of the car twice. Have never been transported away from a "scene" before, nor any charges.
I have told both my kids that when it comes to the cops:
1) comply with every order given immediately
2) be respectful
3) no resistance at all
Arguing with the cops is never going to end well. EVER. If there has been a wrong doing by the cops, it is never wise to challenge them right then and there. Patience is key, and use the courts. That's where you can have your fun. When you start running your mouth and acting "morally superior" you get this asshat in the video. He escalated it 100%. What would have been a verbal talking to and everyone going their separate ways, he decided to show off to his friends, and now he has very real charges that will 100% stick, and a very real criminal record that will follow him around for the rest of his life. Hope he got to go to Vegas for his 21st before this.
Oh wait, according to Coupe, he is a kid and so isn't allowed in Vegas...
@ExtraSlow but now I am curious... You never had a cop put handcuffs on you implying that you have had someone else put handcuffs on you. Details please, and leave no details out. :D
Had a debate with my cousins in my family group whatsapp chat about this yesterday, glad i wasn't completely out of touch saying this dude deserved it. Yes the law sucks but this all could have easily been avoided instead of having your face on the front page of news. All he had to do was just leave like the rest of his buddies and come back an hour later or the next day.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
That said, i agree it's quite embarrassing for CPS as well. Those two female cops were powerless against this dude. Imagine this was the US, he'd have been tazed right quick.
you know how kinky @baygirl gets.
He probably has orders to supervise but not interfere because the department needs female officers making arrests in their monthly stats. Just my guess.
EDIT: Either that or keeping an eye on the crowd and making sure they don't try anything while the other two can focus on making the arrest.
I love how this video teases social media voices of 2020 all in 1 place. Teases police brutality but the cops were pretty restraint and didn’t use unnecessary force. Pandemic rules vs ignoring rules. I’ll bet the social media comments are hilarious. Going to be some glorious reading next time I take a shit.
we need to send the kindergarten cop next time, this was totally inappropriate.
4$ laces.... vs cops getting tendons/ligaments cut if he really wants to brawl.
Seriously you guys are arguing they shouldn't have cut his skates off?
I would have tasered his ass. Non lethal ftw baby! And this is why I'll never be a cop
Fuckin hoser
Apparently he is a Junior A player, so now he has risked any career prospects with a record too. His buddies taking a video thinking that they were helping only made it worse too - pretty clear he was resisting arrest. He's lucky he didn't get tased for sure!
So I'm going to admit that I didn't even think about cutting the laces on the skates (DUH!) vs. untying them, I just pictured the cops slicing through the side of the skate boot itself like they do with boots when someone suffers a foot injury (think broken ankle in a cowboy boot). Ya, slicing the laces is the quickest and most logical solution here.
It's definitely him, he's even got number 7 on his jersey... this is going to be international news for sure lol NHL prospect getting arrested...
That’s impressive, risk losing a potential lucrative career because you want look tough in front of your buddies. Wonder if it was worth it.
The friends even call him Ocean multiple times when the cop is asking for his name
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60-ghqzV4-4
EDIT: I'm assuming you're asking so there aren't BS rumors spread on the website; I heard from a parent of one of his friends. Can delete these posts if it's an issue writing actual names
smrt boi
Not the smartest doing it in your jersey with your name and number on it lol
Always commit crimes in a James Neal jersey.
He's not an NHL prospect though. If he was, he could join a Canadian division team that never makes the playoffs to avoid travelling to the US.
Watching the video again, I thought the cops were pretty calm at the beginning and gave him several chances.
On the bright side, I guess it’s good that it’s the worst of the brothers.
Back on the farm to calm a spooked horse, you jam your finger up its ass to bring it down. All them lady cops had to do.
I thought that was to get a pitbull to unclench its jaw and release your arm
meathead hockey player -vs- woke gender policy
Most Canadian thing ever?
Goddamn this is entertaining shit.
This seems like a great excuse to put in a backyard rink. Anyone else build one? $20 tarp from Princess Auto, a couple of hours and some old pallets. My kids are under 5 so if your children are over 20 this might be a bit small for them. In Aspen you could probably have a full size rink for a real hockey game.

Moral of the story is build a backyard rink out on a properly in the boonies. Invite who ever you want or privately rent out the ice. Bonus points if you donate the earnings because you can obviously afford a backyard rink.

What is this, a hockey rink for ants? I’d want space for at least a 3vs3.
With this kid being a Junior player that explains why the cops had a hard time pulling him off his feet.
Beyond, bunch of creme puffs on this board.
The kid was out of line with his actions but the situation could have easily been avoided by just letting him go.
The rest of the kids were cleared off, he’s allowed to be on the ice alone.
Why escalate a situation, the officers were reacting the same way the kid was, erratic and reactionary.
The whole situation could have been avoided with a different approach.
Ya, like if a cop asks you what your name is you tell them.
