Dual sim phone help?
Hey everyone,
Have you used a dual sim phone? If so, maybe you can help me out.
I just got a dual sim phone and I have two providers: Telus and Mobilicity.
I want to use Telus as my main driver and use Mobilicity as a secondary line.
I'm trying to find the right dual sim phone right now, but i'm just testing out dual sims right now with a acer phone.
When I put in the two sims the Telus one works fine, no issues. But in slot 2 is Mobilicity sim. and that one just says roaming.
Is there any way to change this? should i put mobility card in slot 1 and telus in slot 2?
Is there any way to use 3G service on both cards or does one have to be 3g while the other is 2g?
I'm a complete newb to this so just trying to get some help. Please provide any input you may have. Thanks =)

I've had two dual sim phones. I'm currently using an ASUS Zenfone 2 and sim 1 allows 2G, 3G or 4G service but sim 2 will only work with 2G service. It was the same with the older phone I was using as well.
It worked for me as I only used sim 2 for talk and text and sim 1 for data.
-
A lot depends on the kind of phone you have. Some allow both SIM data's to work and some allow one SIM to take precedence over the other. I had the Samsung S4 Mini and while both SIM's worked simultaneously but the data was only one.
-
From my experience, to get a proper dual SIM phone you have to drop a lot of cash. Acer isnt excatly the best in that regards.
-
Yeah acer was just a trial run, since i'm new to dual sim.
But now i know what i want.
So i'm looking for a dual sim phone, one where both sims can run 3g (at least). Because the whole sim 1 being 3g and sim 2 being 2g doesn't work for me.
Telus doesn't offer 2g and mobilicity just roams on 2g. So I need a dual sim phone that can do dual 3g.
Any suggestions on which phone i should get? I know the zen fone is dual sim but the same problem exists with the sim 2 slot being 2g only.

Were so technologically backwards in NA that youll have to look in SE Asia for a phone that does all that. eBay would be a good first start.
-
what should i even search for? what is it even called when there's dual sim, and both sims are capable of at least 3g?
This would be easier if i had roger's since they have GSM but I don't want to sign up for rogers just for this shit

You would have to do a fair bit of homework:
- frequency band of your networks - make sure your phone supports *both* bands of Telus and Mobilicity
- phone that allows simultaneous 3G connection
My (no clue) guess is 500$ for a ball-park price.
So you would like to have Telus Voice/Data and Mobilicty Voice/Data on simultaneously? Dont expect a long battery charge!

Just a shot in the dark, 3-SIM phone.
EDIT - still limitations
When SIM 1 is connected, SIM 2 cannot dial or receive a call. The message, “The number you dialed is busy, please try again later” will appear.
When SIM 1 is ringing, SIM 2 cannot receive a call and the message, “The number you dialed is busy, please try again later” will appear.
When SIM 1 is sending or receiving a SMS, SIM 2 cannot send or receive.
Only one SIM can be set as data connection, and the other SIM will only use Voice call function.
If SIM 1 is set to data connection services, when SIM 1 receives a call you can still use the data service and voice service at the same time.
If there is a call to SIM 2, then the data service from SIM 1 will be paused and will resume once the call is finished.

OK you got me interested, I know enough people who are looking to do this.
The term youre looking for is DUAL SIM FULL ACTIVE
Asus Zenfone ZE551ML supposedly does this:

So this model of the asus zenfone is sold by memory express too.
Problem is, the Asus has made the sim2 slot dedicated to 2g only.
So it still won't work. Will look to find something else then.
Thanks again for all your help!

This one is also touted as dual active sim.

Again, not sure if this works with TELUS and MOBILICITY bands.
edit - NM this also is 2G for second SIM

This one IS actually dual active 3g - now you need to figure out if both bands from your providers are supported!!
-
Wow, thanks so much man for looking more into this.
Unfortunately the huawei honour doesn't support telus or mobliicity bands.
:banghead:
Though i found this one:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Original-...item1ea33c511a
looks awesome, just doesn't support Telus LTE band (1700 MHz).
-
Dont focus on LTE exlusively, 3g would be sufficient for you prob.
TELUS
3G (CDMA)
850/1900
MOBILICITY
AWS
1700/2100
:nut:
-
So I just checked the lenovo vibe z2 again...and sim 2 limited to gsm only.
Fuck! :banghead:
I guess that's it... just can't get both 3g/3g and working canadian bands
-
I'll bet there is 1 phone in the entire world that would work here.... but that would mean searching for a long time.
You may have better luck with a Rogers/Wind dual sim phone TBH.
Telus/CDMA isnt really used in the same format we have, anywhere in the world.
-
I found one
Huawei p8
It says both Sim can do 3g. It also has all the Canadian bands. Ordered it... Will report back when I get it.

Xperia Z5 Dual will be exactly what you are looking for. Not released quite yet though. Not going to be cheap either.
